Fire engine launches 2012 Fairplex Fall Commodity Drive
The St. Croix County 4-H Dairy Committee and the Friends of the St. Croix County Fairplex are launching their annual Fall Commodity Drive.
This year, the drive is off to a blazing start with the donation of a 1973 fire engine for scrap metal by Steve and Jackie Kumm of New Richmond. Donations of corn, beans, cull cows and scrap metal are being sought.
According to Chris Libbey, “2012 has been a banner year for the Renovations for Generations Capital Fund Drive with over $84,000 raised to date. The support from the entire County has been fantastic.” The first dairy barn, erected for the 2011 Fair, has been completely paid for and the drive to fund Dairy Barn #2 launched with a stretch goal of erection for the 2013 Fair.
This year the St. Croix Central FFA Chapter has elected to donate the proceeds of their Annual Corn Drive to Friends of the St. Croix County Fairplex. According to Bill Emery, Faculty Advisor, “the Chapter voted to dedicate this year’s drive to the Fairplex Renovations for Generations Fund Drive as their way of giving back to the Fair”. At press time, they are 50% done with their drive and have already collected 900 bushels, a tremendous outcome!
Kirsten Konder, 2011-2012 Fairest of the Fair and long time 4-H member finds “the St. Croix County Fair not only a great place to visit, but even a better place to have your heart.” She sees the renovation of the Fairplex “as living the 4-H motto of making the best better.”
All donations, small or large are greatly appreciated. If you are interested in making a donation of any type, please contact either Chris Libbey at (715)-246-5626, Terry Mitchell at (715)-246-5502 or Chuck Kruschke (715) 248-3214.
