Bulldogs shut out Raiders on the road

BOYCEVILLE – After falling short at home to Mondovi, the Bulldogs redeemed themselves on Friday, September 14 as they played against the Elmwood/Plum City football team at the Plum City High School.
The Raiders co-op team is a part of the Lakeland South Conference.
The game started out slow on both sides of the ball as the score was 0-0 going into half time.
“We had too many penalties and mistakes in the first half that ended our drives,” explained coach Brian Roemhild.
The game changed in the second half, as the Bulldogs exploded on the field offensively.
With 36 seconds left in the third quarter, quarterback Matt Leach handed the ball to Zach Klassen for a 16 yard touchdown run to put the Bulldogs on the board first.
Leach lined the team up for a two-point conversion play that was run in by Klassen to give the Bulldogs a 8-0 lead.
The Bulldogs would march down the field again in the fourth quarter to the one yard line. This time Leach would hand the ball off to Will Kraft for the touchdown. Again the Bulldogs lined up for a two-point conversion play, which was successful after a pass from Leach to Josh Cormican was completed.
The score was now 16-0 with 5:47 left in the game and that is how it would remain with the Bulldog’s shutting out the Raiders.
“In the second half the offensive line took control of the game and Klassen and Kraft pounded the ball down the field,” said Roemhild.
And that is exactly what the Bulldog runners did as they rushed for a total of 233 yards.
Klassen lead the duo with 154 rushing yards while Kraft rushed for 79 yards in the night.
Each had 21 carries and a touchdown run. Dominic Olson had four carries for 25 yards for the team.
Tyler Niebur managed to rush for just 27 yards for the Elmwood/Plum City team.
Quarterback Tom Laflex completed four out of 17 passes for 31 yards to receivers David Rhy for 19 yards and Seth Jones for 10 yards.
Offensively for the Bulldogs, Leach was two for eight in the night on passing completions for 25 yards. Brett Boda received one pass for a 19 yard run.
The Bulldogs will hit the road again to play in St. Croix Central against the 2-1 Panthers on Friday, September 21 starting at 7:00 p.m.
