By Kelsie Hoitomt

The Glenwood City cross country team traveled to New Richmond on Thursday, September 6 for an invitational that featured 14 other schools, most of which were Division one and two.

Considering it was mostly Division one and two schools, the Hilltoppers managed to compete fairly well with their top seven boys and girls running.

The boys had their number one runner back in Ethan Brandt who was out last week due to an injury.

“Ethan lead the team, but felt a little out of shape, but his injury wasn’t hampering him at all,” said coach Matt Schutz.

Out of 92 runners, Brandt placed 27th with a 19:05. Following were Tyler Johnson in 32nd (19:21), Michael Johnson in 42nd (19:51), Derick Huebner in 69th (21:14), Matt Wink in 74th (22:05), new comer Jack Kremer in 76th (22:14) and Andrew Bauman in 81st (22:28).

“The boys did well over all with most of them improving on their times for this season,” said Schutz.

First place for the boys 5k went to Nate Tripp of Rice Lake with a time of 17:00.
Morgan Kadinger led the Hilltopper girls’ team with a time of 21:17 to put her in 12th place.
“Kadinger came in 12th overall, but was second to Breanna Colbeson from Spring Valley for Division three runners,” said Schutz.

Following for the girl’s team were Jennifer Kopacz in 28th (22:26), Kaitlin Konder in 38th (22:52), Jenny Lindquist in 40th (22:55), Jenna Magsam in 62nd (23:57), Maya Petersen in 69th (24:51) and Mackenzie Wink in 72nd (25:05).

First place for the girls’ team went to Colbenson with a time of 18:46.

The girl’s team finished seventh out of 12 teams while the boy’s finished tenth out of 14 teams.
