BOYCEVILLE- The Bulldogs lost six strong seniors this year on the varsity volleyball team to graduation, but the girls are still looking to have a successful season.
Gone due to graduation are Cansis and Krista Bodsberg who were the teams number one and two for most attack kills. Emily Guy and Kori Klaustermeier were the number one and two leaders for set assists. Also gone are Sabrina See and Sarah Thompson.
Returning senior this year for the Bulldogs is Kysa Franseen who was the number two player in defensive digs with 122. The number one defensive dig leader last year was Abbey Bird, who as a freshman had 174 digs. She is returning this year as an outside player.
Filling out the rest of the team is senior Alex Wold who is a new face this year. The juniors on the team are Melissa Stuart, Kennedy Hellmann, Emma Lorenz and April Lake who are all returning players. And sophomores Brittany Tetzlaff, Mckenzie Schultz and Alexa Peterson who was the number three player in set assists behind Klaustermeier with 54.
As the only returning senior, Franseen is expected to be a strong leader on the court and vocally as well.
“We did lose a lot of playing experience and height, but this is a group of girls who truly want to be successful and they are not afraid to work at it,” said head coach Taryn Score, who has is returning for her sixth year.
The 2012 team as a whole hasn’t seen much varsity experience, but they appear as a very eager group of girls.
Coach Score feels confident in the teams serving and it is her goal to have the girls serving at the 90 percentile or over.
In practice, the team has been working on constant communication during every play. They have also been working hard to have a passing rate of over two and half out of three.
“These girls worked very hard over the summer and have committed themselves to each other and the game. I expect we will surprise some people. The girls have a lot of potential and it should be a fun and exciting season,” shared Score.
The season began on Tuesday, August 21 in Colfax for a quad. The Bulldogs will host a quad at home on Thursday, August 24..
