MARSHFIELD — The Colfax cross country teams traveled to Marshfield on Saturday, September 7 to compete in the Marshfield Columbus Invite.
“There were some nice performances throughout, nothing earth shattering, but a lot of solid runs,” said head coach Joe Doucette.
The Colfax girls finished in fifth place overall with a score of 117 while the three boys who ran for the Vikings all finished in the top 35.
Molly Heidorn capped her first week of varsity meets with a medal in Marshfield as she finished in sixth place with a time of 21:48.9.
“She could be very good,” Doucette explained of Heidorn.
In her first race of the season, Jasmine Best finished in 14th place at the Marshfield run after she crossed the line in a time of 23:41.1.
“She (Best) looked good in her first race of the year, she competes and is one of the toughest kids in our program,” noted Doucette.
Juelia Berger and Jaclyn Olson finished in 37th and 39th place with times of 27:10.5 and 27:19.8.
“Bowe also ran well, she is athletic and one of our biggest keys is her continued improvement,” Doucette stated.
Colfax had two more ladies compete last Saturday. Emilee Burcham-Scofield finished in 40th place with a time of 27:21.8 and Jenna Goodell placed in 46th place and crossed the line with a time of 28:11.1.
As for the boys, they have yet to have enough runners to score points and place among the other teams.
“The boys were solid,” said Doucette. “Noah and Dennis have great experience, they know how to race and always improve as the year goes.”
Noah Heidorn was the first of the three Viking boys to cross the line with a 25th place finish and a time of 20:25.8.
Dennis Sonnentag and Ashton Yarrington finished in 27th and 35th place with times of 20:35.1 and 21:44.1.
“Right now, we have no training effect, we are going off what people did in the summer,” Doucette explained. “We really feel we have a lot of things to look forward to coming up.”
The Vikings will get a respite after two races in the opening week of the season. Colfax’s next meet is slated for Saturday, September 14 in Fall Creek.
