BOYCEVILLE — The Lake family farm will host this year’s Summer Field Day on August 6 starting at 9 a.m. presented by the Dunn County Land and Water Conservation Division.
The event is focused toward farmers, but everyone is welcome to attend the free event.
The Lakes’ property is located just outside of Boyceville on County Highway F, where signs will be posted for parking near their home.
The Lakes have wanted to host the event in previous years, according to Jeff, but it has been three since the last time the farm was used for the occasion.
“Because we are trying different things, different experiments involving conservation,” Jeff stated. “We wanted to do it last year but it didn’t come up at the right time.”
The event will kick off at 9 a.m. with an introduction to those in attendance followed by a Cover Crop seed selection presented by Dave Balko of Elk Mound Seed.
At 9:45 a.m. Kevan Klingberg, UW-Discovery Farms, will give a presentation on nitrogen use efficiency.
This, stated Jeff and Jake Lake, is to assure that farms are using the nitrogen fertilizer in the right way as well as the correct amount of fertilizer on their farm.
The Wisconsin DNR will explain stream biology at 10:15 a.m. followed by lunch provided by the Lakes at 11:15 a.m.
The afternoon will conclude with Scott Stipetich of Pheasants Forever giving a presentation on precision Ag for profitability and improving wildlife habitats, and Brian Briski, Natural Resources Conservation Service, will give a soil health demonstration at 12:30 p.m.
The Lakes will be available to speak with those who come out to the farm and answer any questions they might have in regards to their farming techniques.
