BOYCEVILLE — The accolades continue to flow in for the Boyceville baseball team and its members following their run to this year’s WIAA Division 3 state tournament.
Four Bulldogs players were recently honored with awards.
Senior and Boyceville Class of 2019 valedictorian Jaden Reisimer earned All-State Academic honors while sophomores Walker Retz, Connor Sempf and Trett Joles were named as honor mention members of this year’s All-District NorthWest Team.
Reisimer was solid in centerfield for the Bulldogs this which included two clutch plays in the sectional game against Neillsville to keep the Warriors scoreless.
During his senior year, Reisimer wrapped up his season with a .487 on base percentage and a .381 batting average in his 72 plate appearances. Reisimer also had 26 total chances in the outfield and was able to assist once in his 21 games started.
“Jaden was well deserving of earning All-Academic State,” said his head coach Michael Roemhild. “In order to earn an academic award you must be a junior or a senior and have a cumulative GPA of 4.0 and earn 1st or 2nd team all-conference.”
Reisimer graduated in May of this year leaving the Bulldogs looking for a replacement in the outfield, so it will be up to Coach Roemhild to see which of his players will be a suitable replacement for Reisimer.
The strength of the Bulldogs this past season come from their sophomore class which included Walker Retz, Connor Sempf and Trett Joles, all of which earned All-District Honorable Mentions for the NorthWest District.
Retz and Sempf were two mainstays on the mound for Boyceville as together they grabbed 16 wins and had just four losses over the course of the 2019 season.
Sempf led Boyceville with nine wins overall and pitched 51 innings earning two shut outs against their opponents. During his time at the plate Sempf brought in 16 RBIs for the Bulldogs as well as scoring 11 runs to give him a .309 batting average.
Sempf also struck out 52 batters at the plate, but when he moved to the infield or outfield he was able to garner 24 putouts against the opposing team.
Walker Retz also took some of the pitching duties for the Bulldogs as he pitched 52 and one-third innings giving up an ERA of 1.87 and having two shut outs as well. But for the Bulldogs it wasn’t just his pitching that was a strength, he also led in RBIs with 27 in the 2019 season.
Retz was also credited with one save and 78 strikeouts, 12 stolen bases and a .380 batting average and a .460 on base percentage.
Rounding out the All-District players is catcher Trett Joles. The sophomore was able to communicate with players in the infield and outfield in order to let them know where the ball may fall if the batter happened to get a hit.
Joles had 190 putouts in the course of 137 innings that he played, he also assisted 11 times and ended the season with .995 fielding percentage. He was also second in RBIs with 26 and had 27 runs along with four home runs.
“We as a region have a lot of good teams and athletes in the NorthWest District,” said Roemhild. “So to be able to be recognized by other coaches for your play, is always something that is an honor. I know these three will work harder next year to prove that they were worthy of these awards.”
In order to be nominated for the awards, the athletes must be a first or second team all-conference award winner.
