The Glenwood City High School chapter of National Honor Society (NHS) concluded its annual induction ceremony on Wednesday, May 8, welcoming ten new members into the organization. The event provided an opportunity to highlight the four pillars that are essential to NHS service, scholarship, leadership and character- through a candlelighting ceremony. The event also provided an opportunity for Mr. David Popko, GCHS English/Language Arts Instructor, to highlight the importance of National Honor Society and how it can have a profound impact on members if they were to reflect on the significance of earning membership. Graduating members of the chapter were acknowledged and their future plans were shared with those in attendance.
In order to qualify for membership in Glenwood City’s Chapter of NHS, students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA after three semesters of high school. In addition, students must complete an application, which includes writing an essay regarding one of the four pillars. All applications are reviewed by a faculty council who are charged with maintaining the integrity associated with membership.
The 2019 Glenwood City High School class of NHS inductees include juniors Hannah Meyers, Thomas Rosenow and Elijah Simmons, as well as sophomores Annika Bauman, Isabel Draxler, Delanie Fayerweather, Yasmin Mendez, Gabrielle Moede, Madelyn Oehlke and Alexis Wannemacher.
