ISABELLA LAWSON

DAKOTA CLARK
Glenwood City High/Middle School is proud to announce the March Students of the Month. The character trait that served as the focus for the month was resiliency; students who experience challenges, yet are able to recover from the setbacks and demonstrate success in spite of obstacles. Resilient students are able to maintain control of a situation while working to provide resolution to what may otherwise cause them to be less than their best.
The March Student of the Month at Glenwood City High School is junior, Isabella Lawson. Isabella was nominated by Ms. Erickson, Social Studies instructor. Ms. Erickson stated, “Ever since I have known Bella, she has been balancing a busy school schedule, practice, and responsibilities at home and at work. She is the type of student and athlete, that despite how busy her life is, when asked to do something often responds with a simple “yep” and whether I am in my role as teacher or coach, I know I can trust her to get the job done at a quality level. I cannot think of a time where Bella has ever complained or had a negative word to say. She quietly accepts her responsibilities, and fulfills her roles in class, on the field, at home and at work admirably. Despite being very ill at the start of the quarter and softball season, Bella continued to work hard, often needing to be told to take breaks-never asking for special treatment, rather wanting to help her team. After a tough loss and cold game, and despite still not feeling well, Bella was the last to leave the dugout, after staying to help rake and make sure everything was put away. To me, resilience is overcoming challenges, and carrying on to the best of one’s ability. No one better exemplifies this characteristic than Bella Lawson.” Isabella is the daughter of Tracy and Chris Lawson.
The March Student of the Month at Glenwood City Middle School is eighth grader, Dakota Clark. Dakota’s resiliency was highlighted by Ms. Holter who pointed out, “Reading and writing are not easy for Dakota; she continues to work hard every day both in regular ELA, as well as during Read 180. She does a great job in her writing, and if she does not, she is always willing to fix her work without a complaint. I enjoy how she is willing to volunteer for major readers’ theater roles or read out loud in the classroom. Dakota is not afraid to try, whether she is right or not. Dakota is the daughter of Jolynn and Dennis Clemens.
Students of the Month are acknowledged by having lunch provided for them and a friend, as well as being issued a unique piece of Hilltopper apparel. In addition, students are provided with preferential parking for a month (for them or a family member).
