STATE CHAMPS AND RUNNERS-UP — The Elk Mound powerlifters squads headed to state tournament in Appleton on Friday afternoon, March 1, with the largest group of qualifiers in the entire state with 37. The Lady Mounders won the state championship in Appleton while the boys finished second. Colfax competitors do well too!

APPLETON — The Colfax and Elk Mound powerlifting teams departed for the state tournament on Friday, March 1, to take part in the two-day competition held Saturday and Sunday, March 2-3 in Appleton.
Elk Mound had 37 lifters qualify for the state competition, which was the largest in the state of Wisconsin, and Colfax qualified four lifters.
Elk Mound captured first place in the girls’ state competition while the boys’ team finished in second place.
Laylue and Nanya Kue both competed in the 105-pound weight class and took second and fourth for the Mounders. Laylue finished with a 165-pound squat, 80-pound bench and a 225-pound dead lift, while Nanya finished with a 125-pound squat, 75-pound bench and a 210-pound dead lift.
Laylue Kue just missed first place which was taken by Jessica Mohan of Whitehall with a 170-pound squat, 105-pound bench and a 210-pound dead lift.
The 114-pound weight class was dominated by the Mounder ladies with six of them placing in the top 15 including Morgan Hallum who took first place with a 205-pound squat, 105-pound bench and a 225-pound dead lift.
Clare Hallum, Emma Gillespie, Peyton Meyers, Mercedes Hay and Madelynn Dutzle all placed in the 114-pound weight class behind Morgan Hallum.

The first of the ladies to compete for Colfax were in the 148-pound weight class as Bailey Schlough took eighth place with a 230-pound squat, 145-pound bench and a 280-pound dead lift wile teammate Alexis Snider finished in 15th place with a 220-pound squat, 100-pound bench and a 280-pound dead lift.
The 198-pound weight class saw DeAnna Leon from the Mounders finishing in fifth place with a 260-pound squat, 120-pound bench and 290-pound dead lift, while Sydney Herrick finished in eighth place in the 242+-pound weight class with a 225-pound squat, 115-pound bench and a 280-pound dead lift.
Dalton Klukas of Colfax set the bench press record in the 132-pound weight class, he finished in sixth with a 260-pound squat, 220-pound bench and a 325-pound dead lift. Klukas finished ahead of Elk Mound’s Dominic Hall who had a 260-pound squat, 170-pound bench and a 370-pound dead lift.
Ethan Kaanta and Mason Close struggled in the 165-pound weight class as they finished tenth and nineteenth. Kaanta finished with a 375-pound squat, 215-pound bench and a 385-pound dead lift, while Close finished with a 325-pound squat, 170-pound bench and a 440-pound dead lift.
Mounders’ Carter Brantner did not place at State as he failed all three of his dead lifts, but did finish with a 430-pound squat and a 225-pound bench press.
