BOYCEVILLE — In a game that seemed like a runaway for the Mounders, the Bulldogs boys basketball team attempted to fight back in the closing minutes of the first half of last Thursday’s game played in Boyceville.
When Elk Mound stretched out the lead once more in the second, Boyceville again responded but in the end, Boyceville rallies were not enough to overcome Elk Mound’s large early lead as the Mounders took the win by a score of 62-49.
“We struggled in the first half executing our defensive game plan,” said head coach Austin Donahue. “We got down early and against a conference opponent it’s tough to dig yourself out at times.”
Elk Mound jumped to a 33-8 lead over Boyceville with a little under six minutes remaining in the opening half, but Jaden Reisimer took to the court putting up a triple to make it 33-11. Reisimer went on to finish the night with five triples, five doubles and a single foul against the Mounders and led the Bulldogs as top scorer.
Logan Knudtson got in the mix with another trey to put the score at 33-14, after which Reisimer hit the net for seven more points and Knudtson sank another triple. Knudtson also put up five doubles and was one-of-one from the foul line.
Knudtson and Reisimer were the only Bulldogs to score during the first 18 minutes of last Thursday’s game.
“We did not shoot the ball well in the first half and found ourselves down at half. I am very proud of our guys though for coming out in the second half and playing hard,” coach Donahue explained.
Boyceville was able to close the gap to nine points with three minutes left of the second half, trailing 54-45, but Elk Mound hit its second-half free throws making 14-of-16 from the foul line to seal the win.

ON TARGET — Despite the outstretched arm of Elk Mound defender Marcus Kinblom, Boyceville senior Jaden Reismer sank this three-point shot from the corner during second-half action of the Bulldog boys’ home basketball game against the Mounders last Thursday. Brendan Sempf added a pair of triples to bring his point total for the night to six, but foul trouble plagued the junior as they had three fouls in the second half of the game.
Adding to the Bulldogs points were Connor Sempf with two and Bailey Danovsky with a double for two.
“We played much better team defense and as a result gained some energy on the offensive end,” Donahue said. “We showed flashes, but ultimately turnovers hurt us and as a result we ended the game behind on the scoreboard. Cut those in half and we are in the game.”
The Bulldogs hosted the Bruce Red Raiders this past Monday, December 10, before taking to the road for their next two games against Mondovi on Friday, December 14 and Turtle Lake next Tuesday, December 18.
