17 honor students at Glenwood City High School
GLENWOOD CITY — The Glenwood City High School class of 2018 has 17 honor students. The valedictorian Makayla O’Brien and co-salutatorians Mariah Voeltz and Elizabeth Wink are featured in a separate story in our graduation section. Below are the 14 other honor students.

Andi Jo Britton
Andi J. Britton
Andi is the daughter of Gretchen Olson and Chris Britton.
• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. I know it’s cliché, but spending time with my friends, growing into the person I’ve always wanted to be. High school really shapes you into the person you will be outside of the classroom and I’m proud I came from Glenwood City.
• List your favorite high school classes. My favorite high school classes have been in the art room with Mrs. Jones. I can be myself in her room and I can create beautiful things as well.
• What activities were you involved in during high school? In high school I’ve been involved in Student Council (4 years, Secretary and President), Art Club (4 years, VP, President), NHS 3 years), softball (4 years), and Band and Choir (4 years).
• What are your plans after graduation? My plans after graduation involve attending UW-Whitewater with a major in art and a minor in psychology. Hopefully I will advance to become an art therapist.

Jake Kopacz

Jake is the son of Thomas and Theresa Kopacz.
• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. Winning State in track for the 4x100meter relay.
• List your favorite high school classes. Phy Ed, I love being active, working hard and being competitive. Physics, I like problem solving and learning how things function in the real world.
• What activities were you involved in during high school? Football 4 years, Baseball 4 years, Wrestling 2 years, Track 4 years, Student Council 2 years.
• What are your plans after graduation? After graduation I plan on working the whole summer roofing. I plan on attending University North Dakota for Aerospace Engineering and will try to walk on the football team.

Emma Scholler
Emma Scholler
Emma is the daughter of Ranei Johnson Scholler and the late Ed Scholler.
• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. My most memorable events were qualifying for state as a girls’ cross country team all four years and qualifying for nationals through FCCLA.
• List your favorite high school classes. I very much enjoyed all business and consumer science classes. In the business classes I loved Mrs. Hentz’s teaching and the atmosphere overall. For the consumer science I enjoyed taking teaching youth and child development science I have a passion to work with kids in the future.
• What activities were you involved in during high school? Cross Country – 4 years, Golf- 4 years, DECA – 4 years, FCCLA – 4 years, Student Council – 4 years, and Yearbook – 3 years.
• What are your plans after graduation? In the fall I plan to attend St. Norbert College located in De Pere, WI. I will major in early childhood education and I look forward to their study abroad program!

Jacob Nadeau

Jake is the son of Barb and Mark Nadeau.
• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. My most memorable moments of high school were wrestling down in Madison.
• List your favorite high school classes. I enjoy my science classes and my shop classes because they are the most “hands on learning” which makes the classes most enjoyable.
• What activities were you involved in during high school? FFA 2014-2018; wrestling 2014-2018; football 2014; baseball 2015-2016, 2018; cross country 2015-2017, track 2017, NHS 2016-2018; student council 2016-2018.
• What are your plans after graduation? In the summer I plan on working on our family farm and once school starts I will be majoring in accounting at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa while continuing my wrestling career.

Peter Hill
Peter Hill
Peter is the son of Jeffery and Melanie Hill.
• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. The most memorable events in high school were my senior year football games.
• List your favorite high school classes. My favorite high school classes are Biology, my shop classes and my AP English Class. Biology was fun because of the hands on work. I liked the shop classes with Vanderwaal and Wannemacher because the skills they teach us we can use throughout life.
• What activities were you involved in during high school? Baseball: 2015, 2016, 2018. Basketball: 2015-2018. Football: 2014-2017. Track 2017-2018. NHS: 2016-2018. Choir: 2015-2018.
• What are your plans after graduation? I plan on working as a seasonal attendant at Glen Hills this summer. Next fall I plan on attending UW-Stevens Point for Wildlife Ecology and Management.

Melina Schultz

Melina is the daughter of Eric and Roberta Schultz.
• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. I’ve participated in the Back to the 80’s musical and High School Musical. Attending prom three times and four post proms helped make memories. Homecoming was always fun, from winning powder puff to winning Homecoming queen.
• List your favorite high school classes. I loved Accounting because I love the teacher and math. I also loved science classes, especially Human Anatomy, because I plan to go into the medical field.
• What activities were you involved in during high school? DECA: 2 years, NHS 2 years, Student Council: 2 years, National History Club: 1 year, FCCLA: 2 years, Volleyball: 4 years, Golf: 1 year, Band: 4 years, Choir: 4 years, Show Choir: 2 years, Conference Band:4 years, UW-Eau Claire Honors Band: 2 years.
• What are your plans after graduation? I plan to attend either UW-Green Bay or Luther College to work towards a career in medicine as either a nurse or pediatrician.

Ethan is the son of Larry and Elene Kahler.
• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. State track and field was probably my favorite activity because it is an experience that not many have gotten to have and it is cool to stay in dorms and experience such a large event.
• List your favorite high school classes. My favorite classes are shop classes because I enjoy working hands on. These classes include Electrical, Welding, Light, Construction, etc….
• What activities were you involved in during high school? Football – 4 years, Track – 4 years, National Honors Society – 3 years, FFA – 1 year, History Club – 1 year, Student Council – 3 years, Class officer – 1 year, Band – 4 years, Choir – 4 years.
• What are your plans after graduation? I am going to attend the University of Wisconsin Stout for Mechanical Engineering.

Corrie Gifford

Corrie is the daughter of Jerry Gifford and Jennifer Donaghue.
• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. Crime Scene Lab during Human Anatomy with Taylor McDaniel was super fun to do, we learned that it would be very hard for us to get away with murder. Also eating loaves of bread in Physics with Darcy Peabody and Taylor McDaniel!
• List your favorite high school classes. TAPS senior year (with Jones and Cipriano); I love working with the students and learning with them. Human Anatomy and Advanced Human Anatomy (junior year); helped me decide my major and my future career, also super fun class. Spanish 2 (sophomore year) – Last Spanish with Señora Rasmussen. Marketing with Ms. Thor my freshman year was fun, adventurous, and unexpected!
• What activities were you involved in during high school? Art Club (4 years), National Honor Society (1 year).
• What are your plans after graduation? I plan on continuing my current job at Culver’s in Menomonie until I leave for college at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh majoring in nursing with a minor in business.

Julia is the daughter of Molly and Randy Nerby.
• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. My favorite memories in high school were at the DECA trips to the Dells when we got to meet new people.
• List your favorite high school classes. My favorite classes in high school were Marketing, Painting, & Printmaking, and Graphic Design. In these classes I could express myself and the teachers made it a good time!
• What activities were you involved in during high school? DECA – 4 years; Choir – 4 years; Show Choir – 1 year; Honor Choir – 1 year.
• What are your plans after graduation? After high school I plan on lifeguarding at the local pool and possibly working another job in the summer. In the fall, I will be attending Minnesota State University-Mankato to pursue a degree in Graphic Design.

Matthew is the son of Brent and April Bauman.
• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. Most memorable events include the Florida Band Trip, State DECA, and playing cards at lunch.
• List your favorite high school classes. Favorite classes were Physics, Chemistry, Human Anatomy, and AP English. These were my favorite classes because of the material covered and the people in the class with me.
• What activities were you involved in during high school? Band – 4 years, History Club – 4 years, DECA – 4 years, Student Council – 4 years and National Honors Society – 2 years. Cross Country – 4 years, Track – 4 years, Marching Band – 4 years, Honors Band – 4 years; All School Musical 2 years.
• What are your plans after graduation? I will be attending New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology to study Environmental Engineering.

Jenesa is the daughter of Dion and Lori Klinger.
• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. The most memorable event in high school was going 20-2 my sophomore year in basketball. Another fun event was being regional champs for softball in 2015.
• List your favorite high school classes. My favorite high school class was biology. I really liked this class because there were a lot of hands on labs. It was really interesting to dissect a fish and frog and learn about them.
• What activities were you involved in during high school? I was involved in National Honor Society, Student Council, Volleyball, Basketball, and Softball.
• What are your plans after graduation? After high school, I plan to attend Minnesota State, Mankato for dental hygiene. During the summer I will be working at the town pool in Glenwood City as a lifeguard.

Spencer Oehlke

Spencer is the son of Matt and Bridget Oehlke.
• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. Funny questions. Can science explain where the hour went? What! It rains on the moon.
• List your favorite high school classes. Physics – enjoyed the content as well as Dr. Ketola’s stories. Welding – I enjoy creating my ideas.
• What activities were you involved in during high school? Golf 10-12; Band 9-12.
• What are your plans after graduation? I plan to attend Madison in Mechanical Engineering and then travel to California to live the life.

Kristine Sina

Kristine is the daughter of Stephanie Heinbuch and Matthew Sina.
• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. Riding the bus after softball games; The senior class trip to Wisconsin Dells; Compass (junior year) with Corrie Gifford, Taylor McDaniel, and Connor Cook.
• List your favorite high school classes. General Science and Physics – Doctor Kelota always taught lessons so every student could understand. Also his life stories were very entertaining. Human Anatomy – I find the human body fascinating and it surprises me to learn about all its functions.
• What activities were you involved in during high school? Softball (2015-2017; Art Club (2014-2018); FCCLA (2016-2018).
• What are your plans after graduation? After graduation, I plan to work at Phillips Medisize in New Richmond, Wisconsin during the summer and then attend the University of Wisconsin Superior in the fall of 2018. There, I plan to earn a biology major with a minor in food-life science.

Daiman Shaleen

Daimen is the son of Angela Shaleen.
• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. One memorable event was when Mr. Popko brought us doughnuts each Friday during the 4th quarter. Another memorable event was when Mr. Ketola got his tongue stuck in a bowling ball during a demonstration.
• List your favorite high school classes. My favorite high school classes were my class taught my Mr. Kelota (9th, 11th 12th science) due to his interesting stories and jokes. Also how he interacted with the students, making everyone feel equal. I also enjoyed AP Literature due to the size of the class and Mr. Popko’s puns (and doughnuts).
• What activities were you involved in during high school? I was involved in marching band for 4 years, honors band for 2 years, and history club for 1 year.
• What are your plans after graduation? After I graduate, I will be moving to the Cities with my girlfriend to work at Best Buy. Once the summer has ended, I will be attending North Dakota State University where I will major in Computer Hardware engineering.
