Colfax Health and Rehab – 4-18-2018

News for the week of April 8th to the 14th:

We began the week with music by Dan the One Man Band in the East Dining Room on Sunday afternoon. Residents enjoyed listening to his music that brought us back in time to the 60’s and 70’s.

It may not feel like spring outside, but on Monday, we decided to warm it up at the Big Yellow House by doing some spring crafts. We turned wall paper scraps into butterflies and tulips to adorn our doors. Afternoon found residents in the East Lounge to enjoy our movie of the week, Milo and Otis. Later many gathered in the Square for our Monday Cocktail hour. This is a great time to visit with old friends and make new ones while enjoying our favorite beverage.

Tuesday morning was exciting for both residents and staff as our little chicks began to hatch. We now have two black and one yellow chick that have hatched and there is definitely more action inside the incubator. The afternoon found our Bingo enthusiasts in the Square. All went away with bags full of treats. Michelle, Eileen and Patty always make sure the game runs smoothly.

Pastor Conklin led us in our Wednesday morning church service. We appreciate him taking the time to come and share with us. We enjoyed his inspiring message, and also singing along to our favorite hymns. Leona was here once again as she came for the service and helped those who needed find the songs in their books. Billy Krause entertained us in the afternoon. He always draws a crowd as his beautiful voice and talented guitar playing echoes his songs throughout the halls.  Chick update: by the end of the day we have six babies hatched and chirping away.

Thursday morning, residents gathered in the East Dining Room for our weekly volleyball tournament. This activity brings out our competitive side, and all agree it’s a fun way to get some exercise. Meanwhile in the Square, it was time to get ready for our monthly restaurant style meal at the Green Leaf Café. It didn’t take us long to transform the Square into a café like atmosphere. With checkered table clothes and menus in place, it was open for business and waiting for our first customers. This month’s menu featured a build your own burger theme which offered anything from hot off the grill patty melts, to burgers served on a freshly toasted bun with any or all of the many fixins offered. To complement the burgers we offered onion rings or French fries fresh out of the deep fryer. Add our favorite beverages and it made for a great meal!

Update on our hatchings. As of Friday, we have 10 baby chicks! The residents have visited them often, and have been very concerned about their progress. But all are doing well. In a week or so they will be going to their new homes. Meanwhile we are all watching them as they grow. We all agreed it was quite an experience and we would like to do it again.

Next week will be a busy one with music by Riverboat Randy and Chuck Kirkwood and Friends. We will also be celebrating National Volunteer Appreciation Week and playing bingo with the ladies from St. John’s church of Popple Creek.

Until Next week,
Barb Stobb, Activity Director
