GC National Honor Society inducts 15 into ranks
GLENWOOD CITY — The Glenwood City Chapter of the National Honor Society refreshed its ranks with the addition of 15 new members during its annual spring induction ceremony held on Tuesday, March 28.
Matthew Bauman, Corrie Gifford, Olivia Janson, Jatelyn Johnson, Abby Kremer, Jacob Nadeau, Michaela Nyhus, Tressa Peskar, Delaney Quinn, Gavin Samp, Olivia Scalze, Melina Schultz, Hanna Strehlo, Maggie Wallin and Elizabeth Wink were officially inducted into the local membership of the National Honor Society during the 2017 induction ceremony held in the high school/middle school commons.
Senior NHS member Kaylie Scalze opened the program by welcoming inductees, parents, sponsors, and friends. She also introduced the ceremony’s guest speaker, retired Glenwood City Elementary principal Jim Celt.
Following Celt’s address, NHS advisor Ann Schneider spoke about the principles of the organization. Chapter President Tia Carlson then read a detailed description of the meaning of the Candle of Knowledge, which was followed by explanations of the society’s four virtues – Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character – each described in detail by fellow officers Corey Klatt, Allen Croes and Taylor Drinkman respectively.
Schneider then installed the new members during a candle lighting ceremony where each inductee received a hood from a current member after which all 15 inductees recited the NHS pledge in front of staff, family, friends and peers. New members were awarded a pin and a certificate of membership.
