By Cara L. Dempski

BLOOMER — Four Colfax wrestlers matched up against Superior wrestlers last week in Bloomer and all four won their respective matches.

Austyn Bartz, Cole Olson, Tommy Anderson and Mitchel Harmon all pitted their skills against Spartan wrestlers from Superior. Olson, Anderson and Harmon competed in scored matches and assisted the Blackhawk team to a 49-27 takedown of Superior on January 20.

Freshman Austyn Bartz wrestled an exhibition match at 152 pounds. He topped Spartan Alex Schalis with a fall at 3:42, but was not scored due to the nature of the match.

Olson took on Sam Oosten at 195 pounds. The Bloomer/Colfax wrestler bested his opponent with an injury at 2:00 after a series of take-downs. He picked up six points for the Blackhawks with his win. Anderson wrestled again at 170 pounds. His opponent, Spartan Troy Rep, was pinned at 1:17 and gave the Colfax sophomore a fall and six more points for the Blackhawks.

Harmon, a freshman, took on Superior’s Brandon McClure in the 138-pound weight class. The duo wrestled a full three periods, and Harmon was awarded the win on a 17-9 major decision.

The Blackhawks returned to the mats Monday evening, January 23 for a rescheduled dual against Barron after the original matches were postponed from January 17. The team will travel to Cumberland this Thursday and will host Hayward at Bloomer High School on January 31.
