Elk Mound’s Lew named all-state honorable mention

ELK MOUND — Mounder senior Dane Lew has been named to the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association’s 2016 all-state honorable mention team as a defensive back.

Lew recorded a total of 74 tackles this season and had five tackles for losses. He also served as the Mounders’ offensive play caller for most of the season, until a hard hit in the first half of Elk Mound’s October 7 homecoming game left him with kicking and defensive duties for the remainder of the season.

The senior, who has never been someone to say much about himself, said he was very happy and very thankful for the recognition.

“I just want to thank my family, teammates and coaches for supporting and helping me in any way they could,” Lew stated.

The young back said the best part of playing high school football was the bonds he was able to forge with his teammates and coaches that will last forever. Playing the game he loves as part of that bond was just a bonus.

Lew said he would gladly play sports in college if he were given the opportunity. For now, though, he will keep working hard in school and is looking forward to helping the Mounders win plenty of basketball and baseball games before he graduates next May.
