• What does it mean to you to have earned the title of salutatorian?
Throughout high school, I always strived to maintain good grades. Although earning the title of salutatorian wasn’t my primary goal, I am very proud that I was able to achieve that title and the work I put in to get there.
• Describe the most memorable events from high school.
One of my most memorable high school events was going on an educational tour with fellow students to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and France. This was my first trip abroad which exposed me to cultures outside of America. It also developed my passion for travel which made me realize I would like to study abroad in college.
• What were your three favorite high school classes?
Some of my favorite classes in high school would be Biology 2, Environmental Science, and precalculus. Biology 2 included hands-on labs that advanced my interest in science and taught me a lot about the environment. I took Environmental Science online which confirmed the major I would like to pursue in college. I learned a lot about different aspects of soil, water quality and systems, ecosystems, etc. Lastly, Pre-calculus made me realize how much I like math.
• What activities were you involved in during high school?
Throughout high school, I participated in Powerlifting, Cross Country, Track and Field, Science Olympiad, Cultural Conversations, Future Business Leaders of America, National Honor Society, Student Council, and Prom Committee. Out of all of them, powerlifting was definitely my favorite since I had such a supportive team; everyone was always happy to watch their teammates succeed. It developed my love for lifting which can be a hobby for me for a long time.
• What are your plans after graduation?
After graduation, I will work the summer at Jeremiah’s Fish Farm while also spending quality time with my family and friends.
• Are you planning to attend college or technical school?
In the fall, I plan to attend the University of North Carolina at Wilmington to pursue a degree in Environmental or Coastal Engineering. I made this decision based on my interests in science and math and my desire to spend time outside learning about the environment.
• Anything else you would like readers to know?
I have spent time volunteering at the Dunn County Humane Society, Eau Claire Children’s Theater, and food pantry throughout high school as well.
