EAU CLAIRE —The Colfax baseball team’s “second season” was short-lived as it fell 8-2 to host Eau Claire Regis in the opening round of the WIAA Division 3 regional tournament Thursday, May 26 at Carson Park.
The Vikings, seeded sixth in the regional, did not look comfortable at the plate all game long as Regis pitching registered 13 strike outs in the game. Colfax managed just two runs on seven hits against the third-seeded Ramblers.
Eau Claire Regis advanced to play Spring Valley in Tuesday’s semifinal. The second-seeded Cardinals will to host the game.
Senior Zach Meyer was the lone Viking to record a pair of hits in the game. Brady Simonson had a triple and Andrew Harmon finished with a double while sophomore Brett Schindler and senior Tyler Dawson each had a hit.
Senior Jarrod Rudi, who took the mound for the final time in his high school career, suffered the loss. Rudi threw all seven innings and gave up the eight runs, only two of which were earned. Rudi walked six batters and struck out two.
Brady Simonson and Andrew Harmon scored the Vikings only runs. The Vikings’ lone RBI of the game went to Jarrod Rudi.
With the loss, Colfax said goodbye to five seniors that will be hard to replace. Ben Christianson, Tyler Dawson, Zach Meyer, Jarrod Rudi and Joe Verdon donned the Viking uniform for the last time.
The Vikings finished the year 3-13.
