EM boys win Colfax meet, girls second; Vikings take finish second and third

COLFAX — The Elk Mound boys track and field team copped the title at a five-team meet at Colfax Thursday, May 5 by more than 30 points over runner-up Eau Claire Regis. The Lady Mounders finished third.

The host Colfax Vikings also did well in its home meet with the girls team taking second and the boys were third.

Eau Claire Regis claimed the girls’ championship.

Elk Mound Boys

The Elk Mound boys took home the top spot as they piled up 119.5 points to easily outdistance the Regis Ramblers who finished with 86 points. The Mounders were led by seven first-place finishes in the meet including victories by the 4 x 100, 4 x 200, 4 x 400 and 4 x 800 meter relay teams.

Sophomore Jake Johnson took home a pair of first-place finishes in the hurdles. In the 110-meter hurdles, he had a winning time of :15.75 and in the 300-meter hurdles, he claimed the top spot with a time of :42.05.

In the 100-meter dash, the Mounders took a first and third. Senior Jonah Bauer claimed the top spot in a time of :11.06 while senior Preston Eppers won the bronze with a time of :11.49.

Junior Chandler Schreiber finished in the top three in his two events. He claimed the second in the for third.

Sophomore Tyler Brantner finished second in the 200-meter dash with a speedy time of :24.05.

The Mounders also took a couple of second place finishes in the field events. Senior Aaron Maves claimed a second-place finish in the discus with a best throw of 127′ 3” and had a 40′ 11” throw in the shot put for another silver-medal finish.

Elk Mound Girls

The Elk Mound girls finished third overall out of five teams at Colfax. They ended with 84.25 points with Eau Claire Regis claiming first with 101 points. The Lady Mounders finished the afternoon with two first place finishes and a handful of runners-up.

Taking home the two first-place finishes were the 4 x 200 meter relay team and sophomore Hannah Cedarblade in the 300-meter hurdles with a winning time of :54.42. Cedarblade also finished second in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 17.84.

In the 200-meter dash, Elk Mound took second and third to rack up some team points. Sophomore Callie Nyren narrowly edged out senior teammate McKenna McVey for second. They finished in respective times of :28.24 and :28.97.

Freshman Victoria Fasbender had a nice day for herself as she took second in the 3,200 meters and third in the 1,600 meters. Fasbender’s time in the 3,200 was 14:11.12 and 6:28.43 in the 1,600.

Junior Elizabeth Fasbender also took third in the 400-meter dash with a fast time of 1:04.97.

The girls also did well on the field events. Junior Mikayla Solberg took second in the discus with a throw of 98′ 8”. The Lady Mounders also took second in the shot put with senior Taylor Deling throwing a distance of 31′ 10”.

Colfax Girls

The Colfax girls had a good afternoon as they finished second to Eau Claire Regis with a total of 86 points. The girls had six firsts in the home meet to help them to their second place finish.

Leading the way for the Lady Vikings was freshman Erica Kallstrom, who took home two first-place finishes. Kallstrom finished the 1,600-meter run with a winning time of 5:57.30 and also took the win in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:49.67.

Senior Courtney Dressel was right behind Kallstrom in the 1,600 with a time of 6:01.55. Dressel took the podium’s top spot in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:38.36.

In the 800-meter run, junior Abbagail Schotter was less than a second behind Dressel for second place in a time of 2:39.03.

Marianne Scharlau won both throwing event for the Colfax girls. The senior finished atop the standings in both the discus and shot put. Scharlau threw for a distance of 104′ 7” in the discus and a distance of 32′ 2” in the shot put.

The 2 x 800-meter relay team also won.

Junior Ally Heidorn ran a :13.55 in the 100-meter dash for third.

Colfax Boys

The Colfax boys finished third on the afternoon with 70 points. They trailed both Elk Mound (winner) and Eau Claire Regis (runner-up). The Vikings did take four first place finishes en route to the third-place finish.

Senior Tucker Hovde cruised to a first-place finish in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:57.50. Hovde also placed third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:18.76.

In the 800-meter run, junior Jacob Larson finished a couple of seconds ahead of Hovde to take home first with a winning time of 2:16.64. Larson also finished second in the 400-meter dash in a time of 54.25.

Senior Hunter Lieffort finished in the top three in the two events he competed in. Lieffort took home first in the pole vault, clearing height of 12′ 6”. He also took third in the discus after throwing 123′ 2”.

Senior Issac Lee also placed in the top three in a pair of events. Lee took first in the triple jump with a distance of 40′ 2.5” and third in the long jump on a leap of 18′ 11”.

In the 100-meter dash, senior Jacob Steinke helped his team out with a fourth place finish in a time of :11.82.
