Lady Vikings split in softball action

COLFAX — The Colfax girls’ softball team earned a split in a pair of home confernce games last week.

After a 6-1 setback to Durand on Monday, April 11, the Lady Vikings rebounded for an 8-3 win over Boyceville thanks to a seven-run fourth inning.

The split put the Vikings early season mark at 1-2 – all Dunn-St. Croix games.

Colfax hosted Spring Valley Monday, April 18 and were in Menomonie yesterday for a make-up of the postponed match from April 12. The Lady Vikings play in Mondovi tomorrow (April 21) before returning home to host Elk Mound on Monday, April 25 in the rivarly game.

Boyceville

The Colfax Vikings hosted the Boyceville Bulldogs on Thursday, April 14.

The Vikings were seeking their first victory of the year after dropping the first two games of the year. The Lady Vikings broke through and beat Boyceville by a score of 8-3.

Boyceville got the scoring kicked off in the fourth inning by scoring one in the top of the fourth inning.

Colfax would answer right back in the bottom half of the inning by scoring seven of their own. The fourth inning was capped off by sophomore Mikaela Leibfried hitting a triple that scored two of those runs. Colfax added one more insurance run on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning with sophomore first baseman, MaKayla Mattson hitting an RBI single. The Lady Bulldogs would get two runs back in the top of the seventh, but it was too large of deficit to overcome.

Colfax picks up a big conference win for their first victory of the season. On the mound for the Lady Vikings was sophomore pitcher Tamara Huffman who earned herself the victory. She also added a two for three afternoon at the plate with two singles.

Others collecting RBIs for Colfax included sophomore outfielder Amanda Christianson, sophomore second baseman Becca Lee and MaKayla Mattson with two.

Durand

The Durand Panthers went to Colfax on Monday, April 11 and took down the Lady Vikings by a score of 6-1.

This is the second consecutive loss for Colfax to start the season, who is trying to get on track and string some wins together. Both teams had trouble getting hits in the game with both squads only picking up five hits each.

Durand got things going early in the first by picking up an early run, but their lead was short lived when Colfax got the run back in the second. Just two innings later Durand had their lead back thanks to a two run inning in the fourth. The Lady Panthers followed that up with two more in the sixth and finishing of the top of the seventh with one more.

On the mound for the Lady Vikings was sophomore Tamara Huffman who picked up the loss on the afternoon throwing five innings. Huffman only allowed three hits but five earned runs. She also had ten strikeouts on the afternoon. Senior Lakken Meredith also came into the game to pitch two innings and giving up one earned run.

Collecting the five hits for the Lady Vikings were: Tamara Huffman; sophomore, Mikaela Leibfried who had two; freshman, Kaitlyn Field; and sophomore, Hailey Durand.

For the Durand Panthers, pitcher Joselyn Hurburt threw a complete game while striking out six on the afternoon. Hurburt picked up her third win of the year as the Lady Panthers took care of Colfax.
