Six golfers return to Colfax team

COLFAX — Colfax High School golf team coach Vince Ross is pleased to have six golfers returning this spring and welcomes two newcomers to the team.

The golf team did not have any players who graduated last spring.

Team members include Dennan Fogarty (freshman); Richard Stehling (sophomore); Trenton Anderson (junior); Trey Gullickson (senior); Trevor  Seston (senior); Brett Prince (senior); Andy Buckley (senior); and Trin Gunnufson (sophomore).

“We are going to look to the seniors Trevor, Trey, Brett and Andy for leadership this year,” Ross said.

This spring will mark the fourth season of varsity golf for Trey Gullickson and Trevor Seston.

“I feel that they are focused for their last year,” Ross said.

“It will be nice to have Brett out for golf full time this year, because last year he split time with the track team. Andy, Richard and Trenton also were letter winners for us,” he said.

Dennan Fogarty and Trin Gunnufson are new to the golf team this spring.

Coach Ross said one of the golf team’s strengths is that the players know the other courses.

“We have to work on finishing well from 150 yards and in. Last season, we had problems on scoring well in that zone, so we are going to see if we can improve on that this season,” he said.

Goals for the team are to score under 180 and getting to the sectionals.

“(Last year) was the first year in the last eight years that we did not send an individual or team to the sectional,” Coach Ross said.

The top competitors for the Colfax golf team will be Spring Valley, Glenwood City and Mondovi.

“Spring Valley, Glenwood City and Mondovi have good players back from last year’s team. I’m not sure what Durand has,” Coach Ross said.

Vince Ross has been coaching golf at Colfax for nine years.
