MADISON – Colfax senior Brady Simonson will be wrestling for a spot in the state wrestling finals this evening in the Kohl Center at Madison.
After failing to win a match in his previous two state visits – 2013 and last year – Simonson, a four-year varsity member for the Bloomer-Colfax wrestling team, will be vying for a spot in Division 2, 138-pound championship.
Simonson reached tonight’s semifinals with a pair of victories in the 2016 WIAA State Wrestling Championship.
Simonson dominated last night’s preliminary match against Trent Rebedew, a senior from Elkhart Lake-Glenbulah/Howards Grove, winning a major decision by a 17-4 score. That put him into the quarterfinals’ round earlier today where he defeated Two River’s senior Cody Yauch 7-4 in a second overtime tiebreaker.
The win advanced Simonson, 41-3, to the semifinals. There he will square off against fellow senior Gabe Braam of East Troy, who sports a mark of 35-10.
