Elk Mound boys use long bomb in win over Auburndale

AUBURNDALE — When your team connects for 14 shots from behind the three point line, it’s pretty safe to assume you will come up with a win. The Elk Mound boys did just that when they went on the road to beat Auburndale 63-49 Dec. 29.

The game scheduled for the previous evening was cancelled due to poor weather conditions and a make up game against Augusta will take place Jan. 25 at home against Augusta.

Elk Mound used four triples by four different players in the first half to take a 30 -19 lead. Dane Lew, Carter Pritchard, Brandon Bohl and Cole Tyman all connected from downtown while Ben Lambele did all his work under the basket with four buckets. 30 of the Mounders 33 second half points came from behind the arc as Bohl and Lew went on a terror with Bohl knocking down five treys and Lew four to go with one by Tyman. Lew hit a pair of free throws to finish 6 for 6 at the line and Lambele knocked one down for the rest of the scoring.

Lew led the Mounders with 23 points while Bohl added 18, all from long range shots. Elk Mound was 7 for 12 from the charity while the Apaches were 10 for 19.

“Bohl and Tyman have struggled a bit the last few games but they were a big spark for us tonight,” coach Chris Hahn said. “We need those two to be consistent for us because when they shoot well, we seem to have a lot of success as a team. I was happy with the efforts of Lew and Lambele on both ends of the floor and we will be leaning on them to help us score. And Pritchard gave us some great minutes off the bench,” he added.

Elk Mound will resume conference play Jan. 8 at Boyceville.
