Colfax-Bloomer wrestlers finish fifth at Northern Badger

Among 39 teams divided into three divisions, the Colfax-Bloomer co-op wrestling team placed fifth of 13 teams in Division I at the Northern Badger Wrestling Classic held Dec. 28-29 in River Falls.

Brady Simonson scored 30 of the 122.5 B-C points by placing third at 138 pounds. Simonson won his first two matches by pins, won the third 7-3 over a Spring Valley-Elmwood opponent, lost 6-4 to Boyceville, then came back to win 2-1 in the third place match against Rhinelander.

182 pounder  Cole Anderson-Olson claimed sixth for 25.5 team points, receiving a bye the first round, winning by a pin the second round, lost via a pin to Boyceville’s Garrett Joles who was 21-0 and competed at the state meet last year, then won by a technical fall against Spooner, won 2-1 against Prescott, then lost the fifth place match 7-3 to an opponent from Neillsville-Greenwood-Loyal.

Claiming seventh place with 27 team points was Brady Hedtke at 195 pounds. Hedtke wrestled seven times, winning five matches including his final one against Prescott in a pin at 0.35.

Collin Bungartz, competing at 152 pounds, finished 10th with 16 team points. Bungartz was 4-3 for the tourney, dropping the final match 12-3. Jared Kressin placed 12th at 145 pounds and scored nine team points. Kressin was 3-4 for the two days, losing his last match 7-1 against Osceola.

Scoring team points but not placing were Zack Arvold at 170 pounds with six points, Jarod Stoll at 120 pounds with four points, Ike Kramschuster at 126 pounds with three points and Dalton Schotter added two points at 132 pounds. Arvold was 2-2 for the tourney, Stoll finished 2-2, Kramschuster was 2-2 and Schotter was 1-2.
