Independent Bible Church had a potluck dinner in Swanee Rasmussen’s honor following the 9:30 worship service on Sunday, May 18.

 Swanee Rasmussen was honored with a Farewell Party and Open House on Sunday afternoon, May 18, at the Grace Room in the Olde School. The event was coordinated by Swanee’s neighbor, Nancy Erickson, along with a number of friends and neighbors. It was a joyous community celebration!

Monday, May 19, was Visitation Day for the New Hope WELCA. The residents of Morningside Apartments were among those who enjoyed food and fellowship.

Wednesday, May 21, Swanee Rasmussen and her daughter, Carol, visited Delores Krahn in Eau Claire. Swanee and Delores attended Chetek High School and Eau Claire State Teachers College (now UW-Eau Claire) together.

Marge Hanson (wife of Martin Hanson) and her daughter, Maren, of Hastings, MN visited Swanee Rasmussen and her daughter, Carol, on Friday, May 23. Jean Hanson also joined the cousins for coffee at the Sand Creek Café.

Glen Waterhouse, Dawn Waterhouse, Bonnie Whitney from Eau Claire, Ron and Mary Keller of Hopkins were here visiting Mae Sparby over the weekend of May 24-25.

Saturday, May 24, Elwood and Nina welcomed their son, Larry and Amy Donaldson, Derrick, Corey and Nokota of Fond du lac, and friends, Katie and Kathy. Justin and Julie and their young son, William, also visited from Oshkosh. They were camping over the holiday weekend. Bob and Lila Donaldson visited, too.

Dave and Janice Wendlandt hosted a graduation party for their son, Jamison, on Sunday, May 25 at The Golden Sunset Family Campground near Chetek. It was well attended by friends and family.

Memorial Day was observed at both Our Savior’s Cemetery and Zion Cemetery. Pastor Koch led the services, with the Sand Creek Pipers 4-H Club and the American Legion Russell Toycen Post #131 participating. Captain Mark Gilberts read the names of each veteran. Following the memorial services, refreshments were served by the Sand Creek Arts at the Olde School.

Family members visiting Doris and Herb Tallman during the Memorial Day Weekend included: Dan Dietsche and Gus and Deb Avenido of the Twin Cities, Joan Lindau of Medford, Matt of Superior, Mark and Madison of Davenport, IA.

Jim and Jessica Hanson, Nate, Josh, Camila, Angie and Roci, are preparing to return to the USA after 9 months in Guatemala. They will spend the summer visiting family and friends, and sharing their experiences with those who are interested.

Save the date! Sand Creek will celebrate its Sesquicentennial in 2015 – 150 years! Plans are underway for a community celebration, July 16-19, 2015.
