Colfax Health and Rehab – 6-4-2014
We had much to enjoy the last week in May. The beginning of the week was Memorial Day. Many residents went to their family’s homes for the day. The residents that didn’t go out were served a special “Memorial Day” picnic on our campus. The weather was beautifully warm all weekend and stayed sunny and pleasant throughout the week. For some residents the highlight of the week was just to go outside and sit in the sun. If your resident does not have a sun hat, it would be a good idea to bring one for them.
On Tuesday the some residents came to the Square and had coffee and visited with others before devotions started. Cathy always has some thought-provoking and interesting news that keeps everyone’s attention during the current events segment. Stretching and limbering up is part of our every day’s agenda. If we don’t use it we lose it! There are three scheduled exercise events every day; although on Tuesdays, after bingo, we don’t count lifting your glass to toast your neighbors as an exercise event. A few residents take advantage of the alcohol beverages; however most people just like to socialize over hot coffee and homemade cookies.
On Wednesday Pastor Walck from Colfax Lutheran Church led the worship service. Delores Huber accompanied him on the piano. Church ended about 11 a.m., and by high noon the big yellow school bus arrived at our front door. It was once again time for the Annual Kindergarten Picnic. The court yard was set up with the picnic lunch. Missy Prince and several teachers escorted 56 bubbling, excited, hungry children into the building. They were served hot dogs, chips, pickles, watermelon, muskmelon, blueberries, strawberries, punch and ice cream. While the children munched their lunch in the courtyard, the residents gathered in the Square to listen to the children’s music program. Wet wipes saved the day! When the children arrived in the square to sing they were once again bright and shiny. The afternoon beauty boutique was very busy. Taek came on Thursday to do those that didn’t get their nails done on Wednesday.
On Thursday at 10 a.m. the big yellow school bus once again pulled up at our front door. This time is was the 5th grade choir and band’s turn to entertain us. Carrie Christianson, teacher, 70 youngsters, music stands and instruments lined the Square. The residents loved the music and the energetic performance. The Monthly Resident Council Meeting was held in the afternoon. We enjoyed coffee and cookies and visited after the meeting.
On Friday morning Loretta led the Catholic rosary and Glen, Julie and Delores Huber led the Gospel sing. Linnea Thompson, Veda Kiekhoefer, LeAnn Mayner, Leona Ubbelhode, Taek Krueger, Merle Roth, and several other volunteers were here this week lending their helping hands. Dime bingo was the activity in the afternoon and like every evening the Rotunda was lined with residents eager to play bounce ball on Friday evening.
Those are some of the things that happened here in the picturesque land of Colfax where the fellas are fine and the women are wonderful!
