Sand Creek Chatter – 5-7-2014

Dale and Mary Kimball visited their aunt, Swanee Rasmussen, on April 29. They spent the winter in Brooksville, Florida and were traveling to their home in Spirit Lake, Iowa for the summer.

Another bridal shower was held for Tessa Gustum on Saturday afternoon, April 26. This event was given by Tessa’s aunts and relatives and was held at the Sand Creek Chapel of Independent Bible Church.

Last Sunday, April 27, Inez Schrader’s granddaughter, Alyssa Anderson, came to visit Inez accompanied by her mother, Annette Renk from Lake Mills.

The Chetek Girl Scout Brownie troop earned their First Aid badge by going to the Sand Creek Fire Department last week. They got a tour of the fire hall, equipment and learned basic first aid tips. They learned what you need to pack to make your own first aid kit and how to call 911 in case of an emergency. Bob LeFevre also came and showed the girls what they would need to bring for first aid and safety during long hiking trips. The troop consists of: Zoe Mikl-Young, Lauren Hayes, Reese Ridout, Jennie Skoug and Zoe Nelson.

On Thursday, May 1st, Inez Schrader attended the meeting of Retired Teachers of Barron County, held at the Lutheran Church in Cumberland. Enroute home, Inez stopped at the River Park Assisted Living Apartments in Barron to see residents, Don and Dorothy Deit. She also visited Mary Halvorson at Monroe Manor Apartments.

Elaine Toycen and Susan Favero arrived in Sand Creek on Thursday evening, May 1st, after spending 6 months in Mesa, Arizona. Susan’s husband, Jerry Favero is in Little Rock, Arkansas working as a volunteer with the American Red Cross.

Carol Squires came to Morningside Apartments in Sand Creek on Thursday evening, May 1st, to spend the next few weeks with her mother, Swanee Rasmussen to prepare for moving to Maryland in late May. Enroute, Carol stayed with a college friend in Chicago and also enjoyed lunch with a college friend in Oshkosh.

Gaylon and Hannah Greenhill took Swanhild Rasmussen and her daughter, Carol Squires, to Jake’s Supper Club near Menomonie for dinner on Saturday evening, May 3.

The last Bluegrass Jam of the season was held in the Grace Room of the Olde School in Sand Creek on Saturday evening, May 3. There was an excellent turnout of musicians, as well as a very fine attendance — full house!

Elaine Toycen, Sue Favero, Swanee Rasmussen and Carol Squires enjoyed Sunday noon dinner together at the Sand Creek Café.

The Annual Pancake Breakfast, served by the New Hope Lutheran Men’s Group, will be held on Saturday, May 10 from 7:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Senior Center in Sand Creek. A freewill donation will go to a Scholarship Fund. The ladies have a bake sale and plant sale, and there will be a homemade crafts made by the men.

Sean Rae and Zachary Vaughn, grandsons of Tom and Judy Vaughn, represented New Auburn in the State Skills USA competition in Madison on April 29th and 30th. Both boys competed in the CO2 Dragster design category. They were judged on 21 criteria for their car, a CAD drawing of their original design, a resume, and race results. Sean took home the gold medal and state championship, and Zachary received the silver medal in a field of about 50 high school competitors.
