Week after week we have been anxiously waiting for spring.
On Monday we had devotions, reading and exercise. We thanked God for many of the blessings we receive every day and requested warm spring weather. In the afternoon at resident council the residents talked about getting outside to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine.
The following day was April Fool’s Day. We were once again thankful for all our blessings during devotions but during the current events segment the weather man forecasted a large snow storm for later in the week. We all were sure it must be an erroneous report. This news did not deter us from having a great time playing bingo and enjoying Happy Hour later in the afternoon.
On Wednesday morning Pastor Barb from New Hope Lutheran Church in Sand Creek led the church service. Linnea and Veda were here almost every day this week volunteering their help. The afternoon activity was movie and popcorn in the Square. The aroma of hot butter popcorn reassured resident’s that their taste buds were still working quite well.
On Thursday morning the “spring” we were waiting for was postponed. The weatherman’s creative forecasting created conditions that made even walking a challenge. Residents were happy to stay indoors and play volleyball with their friends. Agnes Harvey’s strong serve burst the ball with a loud BANG! This proves that residents do get a bang out of volleyball! After the ball broke and we all stopped laughing we had coffee and cookies. The storm that was brewing did not keep our afternoon entertainer from coming. Rich Schroeder played his guitar and crooned. He serenades us with familiar music. Many of the residents could be seen singing along with Rich. One of his biggest fans had her picture taken with him as he autographed one of his photos for her. Rich will be at playing at “Music in the Park” in May and will be back at our campus on June 12th.
On Friday morning residents awoke to see old man winter outside their windows. Spring would just have to wait a little longer. Despite the storm Glen and Delores came and led our Friday’s Gospel sing. We thought they were angels as they arrived with the snow swirling around them as they entered the building. They really are angels! Loretta is another of our angels. She leads the Rosary for our Catholic residents every Friday morning.
Once a month one of the local churches ladies host a birthday party for the residents that have a birthday in that month. This month the St. John’s Popple Creek Church Ladies hosted the birthday party combining it with the regular Dime Bingo games. A warmer weekend gave promise to the spring we have been waiting for.
That is just some of the exciting news here in the land of Colfax where the men have done a fabulous job keeping the snow off the roads so the women stay safe on the way to the mall!
