On Friday, April 11, 2025 at 7:55 p.m., the St. Croix County Emergency Communication Center received a welfare check from the River Falls Police department to help locate an overdue outdoorsman believed to have travelled to the Cylon Marsh Wildlife area, just east of the Village of Deer Park.
The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area and located a vehicle belonging to the missing outdoorsman. The Sheriff’s Office began to coordinate a search for the subject and bring in additional resources. The Deer Park Fire department took over primary search and rescue operations and the search continued throughout the night.
On the morning of Saturday, April 12, additional resources were brought in to intensify the search and rescue operations. At about 9:28 a.m., the subject was located in the wildlife area, deceased. The subject was identified as 27-year-old, Louis Frederick Miller, of River Falls, Wisconsin. Preliminary investigation did not reveal foul play and the St. Croix County Medical Examiner’s Office is investigating Miller’s cause of death.
The St. Croix County Sheriff’s office and Deer Park Fire department wish to recognize the numerous public safety agencies who assisted in the search efforts. We also acknowledge the family, friends and citizen volunteers who assisted in the efforts.
