Rep. Armstrong, Sen. James schedule Colfax listening session April 11

By LeAnn R. Ralph

COLFAX — State Representative Dave Armstrong (R-Rice Lake) and state Senator Jesse James (R-Thorp) will hold a budget listening session in Colfax on Friday, April 11.

The listening session will begin at 4 p.m. in the Colfax Municipal Building auditorium.

When the listening session was announced, several people raised concerns that the auditorium is not handicapped accessible and that older constituents and constituents with disabilities could have difficulty or find it impossible to climb the stairs to the auditorium.

Situations such as this are exactly the reason why the Colfax Elevator Commission has been raising money and applying for grants to try to install an elevator in the building so that it is completely handicapped accessible.

Sheila Riemer, deputy-clerk for the Village of Colfax, said she had spoken with assistants for Representative Armstrong and Senator James and had been told they would have no problem coming to the main level of the Colfax Municipal Building to speak with anyone who is unable to climb the stairs to the auditorium.

“We want to make everyone welcome that wants to come,” Riemer said.

Senator James represents Wisconsin Senate District 23, which includes Wisconsin Assembly Districts 67, 68 and 69.

State Assembly District 67 in Dunn County covers the Towns of Colfax, Grant, Hay River, New Haven, Otter Creek, Sand Creek, Sheridan, Sherman, Tainter, Tiffany and Wilson, along with the Villages of Boyceville, Colfax, Ridgeland and Wheeler.

District 67 also includes all of Barron County and parts of northwest Chippewa County.

Representative Armstrong plans to hold additional listening sessions in the 67th Assembly District in the near future.  Constituents who are unable to attend listening sessions are always welcome to share their thoughts with Representative Armstrong at Rep.Armstrong@legis.wi.gov or (888) 534-0067.
