WISCONSIN RAPIDS — The Bloomer-Colfax Co-op Gymnastics team ended the 2024-2025 season with a bang. The dynamic senior duo of Celina Hess and Ella Nelson represented well in front of a high energy packed crowd at the WIAA Division 2 Individual State Gymnastics competition held Saturday, March 7 at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School.
Celina Hess, a Bloomer senior, had qualified individually for the all-around and the uneven bars competitions. Hess competed strong with two top 10 places. She finished eighth in the all-around with a 36.083. West Bend East gymnast McKennah Orth won the D2 state all-round championship with a score of 37.183, Madelyn Klein of Dodgeville co-op was the runner-up with a score of 37.067 and Rice Lake’s Avery Ash placed third with a score of 36.633.
With a score of 8.800 on the uneven bars, Hess swung her way to a seventh place finish. Madelyn Klein of Dodgeville co-op won the state championship with a 9.383, McKenna Breunig of Sauk Prairie score of 9.017 secured the silver medal and Marshfield gymnast Alyvia Dietsche and River Falls gymnast Ruby Amundson tied for third place with a score of 8.933.
Colfax senior Ella Nelson had qualified for the state meet on the vault at the Ashland Division 2 Sectional last weekend and in her first WIAA State gymnastics debut, Nelson vaulted her way to a three-way tie for 12th place with a score of 9.050 for her handspring full. Zofia Raduege of Jefferson co-op and McKennah Orth of West Bend East tied for the first place finish with a 9.400. Abby Roecker of Waupun finished third with a score of 9.383.
Hess and Nelson had ended their high school gymnastics career on a high note. Throughout the season this duo had led the team and left their marks in the Bloomer-Colfax co-op gymnastics history books.
A pair of Big River Conference schools captured this year’s state team championships. In Friday’s team competition also held at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School, the Chippewa Falls/McDonell Central cooperative won the Division 1 state championship with a score of 143.550. Oak Creek Co-Op took home the silver state trophy after it tallied a final score of 142.600. In the Division 2 state team competition, the Rice Lake Warriors scored a 138.234 to capture the state championships. The state runner-up trophy was taken by Monona Grove with a tally of 137.517.
