COLFAX — In the Dunn-St. Croix Conference opener for both teams, the Lady Vikings opened the second half with an 18 point run that left the Lady Bulldogs in a hole too big to dig out of, resulting in a 54-27 win for Colfax in the game played Tuesday, December 3 in Colfax.
Colfax jumped out to an early 7-2 lead before Brooklyn Talmage drained a triple and Chelsi Holden hit a free toss for Boyceville to cut the Viking lead to 7-6. After Kaysen Goodell scored on a drive through the lane, Colfax upped their lead to 9-6 and Talmage knotted the score with another shot from behind the arc.
Colfax committed their seventh foul with around five minutes left in the half, allowing Aubrey Malean to hit a free toss and complete a three-point play after the bucket for a 12-9 Bulldog advantage.
The lead didn’t last long however as Goodell scored on another drive and Sierra Shipman canned a trey to put Colfax in front 14-12.
Zoey Hellendrung dropped in a free throw and Malean added two more free tosses for Boyceville, but the Viking’s Jordyn Bowe scored on a fast break in between to keep the score close at 16-15. Shipman added another deuce and Goodell drilled a three point shot before Blake Jeske scored in the paint for Boyceville, and Bowe finished off the first half with a bucket for a 23-17 Colfax lead.
Colfax coach Courtney Sarauer must have given her team a pretty strong talking to at the break as the Vikings came out and scored 18 consecutive points. Their full court press led to several turnovers by Boyceville which led to offense for the Vikings.
Shipman started the streak with a shot in the paint and Goodell added the next seven points on two layups with a triple in between. Brynn Sikora connected from behind the arc, Goodell scored on yet another layup, Ady Acker came up big with her first varsity points with a triple and Bowe dropped in a free throw for a 41-17 Viking lead.
Blake Jeske finally stopped the bleeding for the Bulldogs with a bucket late in the half but the Vikings continued to score in the paint and put the game away.
Colfax had a balanced attack in the scoring department, led by Goodell with 18, Shipman 12, Bowe 11 and Sikora seven. Malean led Boyceville with nine points while Talmage added eight.
