The budget for the Glenwood City Fire and Ambulance Department was presented at the meeting of the municipalities receiving service from those departments. The meeting was held on October 16th at the fire station.
The proposed ambulance budget for 2025 shows an increase of almost $9,000 to $216,793. The largest expense for the ambulance is for wages, which are estimated at $151,637. This is an eight percent increase over the current year.
According to an handout presented at the meeting there are 3,469 people living in the district and the municipality will pay $23.29 per capita in standby charges to support the ambulance service.
The City of Glenwood City will pay $29,834 in standby charges for 2025. The Town of Emerald will pay $11,901; Town of Forest, $3,657; Town of Glenwood, $17,561; Town of Springfield, $11,761 and the Village of Downing, $6,079. The ambulance service has no debt.
Fire Department
The proposed budget for the Glenwood City fire Department shows a decrease of some $2,200 over the present year for a total of $126,000 in revenues and expenditures. The three biggest expenses are $17,024 for rent of the fire station, $17,000 for repair and maintenance and $15,076 to support Equipment Capital Outlay.
The department serves seven area municipalities with an equalized valuation of $410,212,340 in the local fire district. The standby charges are based on that valuation with the City of Glenwood paying $25,298.08 in standby charges. The Town of Forest, $3,866.51; Town of Emerald, $15,096.90; Town of Glenwood, $23,850.97; Town of Springfield, $17,495.24;Town of Tiffany, $4,935.81 and the Village of Downing, $3,956.49.
The department has purchased a used engine and that will be replacing a 30-year-old unit.
