BOYCEVILLE — At the Dunn-St. Croix Conference cross country meet held in Boyceville last Thursday, October 17, the Colfax Vikings performed well with senior Kaysen Goodell winning the varsity girls race and the Colfax boys’ team placing third.
“Really a good day for us. About everything we were hoping to happen did happen for us,” said Colfax cross country head coach Joe Doucette. “The team was fired up to run to support each other and continue to improve.”
Goodell won the 5,000 meter race with a time of 20:34.78. She finished six seconds ahead of the second-place runner. According to Doucette, Goodell joins several other Colfax individual cross country conference champions including; Laura Bjork, Sarah McMahon, Erica Kallstrom, Molly Heidorn and Dempsey Fogarty.
“Kaysen becoming the individual champ was a huge highlight in the race,” said Doucette. “Kaysen is tough mentally and physically. She ran a great race and really set the tone for the rest of the day.”
Hannah Peterson, another runner for Colfax earned her second, first-team all conference award at the meet. She placed sixth out of 38 runners and set a personal record with a time of 21:32.47.
“Peterson is one of the school’s best student athletes,” said Doucette.
Other Viking girls’ runners included Lauren Becker who placed 20th with a time of 24:21.86 and Veronika Leavens who placed 24th with a time of 24:49.09. Since the girls only had four runners they were not able to compete as a team. Boyceville won the meet for a second consecutive year with a score of 27.
Doucette said the boys had their best race of the year. They scored 84 points beating Boyceville, Elk Mound, Mondovi and Spring Valley. Glenwood City repeated as conference champs with 47 points and Durand-Arkansaw took second with 59 points. Zayne Richardson of Durand-Arkansaw won the race with a time of 16:42.81.
“Overall with our roster we ran very well, we wanted to improve and run well and we did that,” said Doucette.
Isaiah Entzminger was the top runner for the Viking boys’ team. He placed seventh out of 64 runners with a time of 18:18.58. His efforts earned him a first team all conference award. Doucette noted that Entzminger lowered one of the fastest freshmen times in Colfax cross country history.

Vikings football player, Theo Hovde, ran for the team at the conference meet as well. He placed 26th with a time of 20:15.32 and was the fourth runner on the team.
“The team got a boost from senior Theo Hovde who has had a great football season to help out. Hovde is awesome, not many people could run so well in that spot,” said Doucette.
Logan Swartz was the team’s fifth runner. He placed 32nd with a time of 20:38.
“Swartz continues to improve and ran well,” said Doucette.
Colfax will run in the WIAA Division 3 sectional meet slated for this Saturday, October 26 at the Whispering Pines Golf Course in Cadott. The girls race at 11 a.m. with the boys to follow.
Middle School
In the girls’ competition, it was originally thought that Colfax won the meet, but due to a miscalculation, it was later learned that Boyceville won with a score of 41. The Colfax middle school girls scored 46 points which put them in second place.
The team beat Elk Mound, Mondovi, Spring Valley and Durand. Presley Kittilson was the team’s top runner. She placed third out of 51 runners. Other runners who scored points were: Leah Shearer, Jillian Rose, Harlow Apel and Piper Kittilson.
In the middle school boys’ competition, there were just two runners from Colfax. They were: Ben Charbonneau who placed eighth and Jack Leavens who placed 15th out of 60 runners.
Presley Kittilson, Leah Shearer and Ben Charbonneau all received medals.
“We were really excited to see us improve again and run well. We have been very fortunate to have some great kids and teams over the years,” said Doucette.
