SPRING VALLEY — Fourteen Colfax athletes competed at the Spring Valley Cross Country Meet held on October 3. Despite their small numbers the Vikings have several strong runners and hope to do well at the upcoming conference meet.
“It’s been a little different the last couple of years. We always loved competing for a conference title but with our short numbers we are trying to get some kids all conference and to keep improving,” said Colfax Head Cross Country Coach Joe Doucette.
And the runners that they do have looked promising at the Spring Valley meet.
In the girls’ competition, Kaysen Goodell took third out of 47 runners with a time of 21:21.1. Kyra Dix of Prescott won the race with a time of 20:51.4.
“Kaysen led the race for two miles but got passed by two kids,” noted Doucette. “Kaysen is tough, one of the best we’ve had.”
Hannah Peterson earned a 12th place finish with a time of 22:49.2 and Lauren Becker came in 25th with a time of 24:17.6.
“Hannah and Lauren also were solid. Peterson was first team all conference last year and Becker quietly has had a great career for us,” said Doucette.
In the varsity boys’ race, Charlie Charbonneau placed eighth with a time of 18:56.3 out of 67 runners and Isaiah Entzminger placed 12th with a time of 19:16.9. Zayne Richardson of Durand-Arkansaw won with a time of 17:04.7.

“For the boys’, Charlie Charbonneau in 8th and Isaiah Entzminger in 12th will have a great shot at all conference, as will Grant Palewicz who is battling a sore leg,” said Doucette.
Levi Elwood placed 62nd in the varsity boys race with a time of 26:11.4.
“A huge highlight for us tonight was Levi Elwood’s first full race. A great kid and teammate, he has worked extremely hard after coming in with no experience. We were very proud of him,” said Doucette.
Doucette is looking forward to the conference meet which is set for October 17 in Boyceville.
“Right now the Boyceville girls and Glenwood City boys look like the conference favorites. We were solid. We have some kids who can have a great conference race in two weeks,” said Doucette.
Middle School
The Colfax middle school girls had enough athletes to form a team. The six runners placed second out of eight teams with a score of 66. Presley Kittilson and Leah Shearer were the top two runners for the team; they placed fifth and sixth out of 66 runners.
Jillian Rose placed 12th, Harlow Apel placed 20th, Olivia Kragness placed 23rd and Piper Kittilson placed 30th.
There were just two runners for the middle school boys team. They were Jack Leavens and Ben Charbonneau, they placed 11th and 12th out of 65 runners.
“We have some great kids in our middle school program,” said Doucette.
The Viking runners will compete in the Boyceville Invitational this Saturday. Boyceville will also host the conference meet on Thursday, October 17.
