The Bulldog cross country teams had a busy week recently competing in two invitationals one in Cadott on Tuesday, September 24 and another in Durand just two days later. The varsity girls’ team placed third at both events while the boys took eighth and fourth place, respectively.
At Cadott, the Boyceville varsity girls scored 95 points out of 10 teams. Phillips won the invitational with a score of 45, Eau Claire Regis took home second with 88 points. The girls beat Colby, Bruce, Fall Creek, Stanley-Boyd, McDonell Central, Cadott and Thorp.
Freshman Blake Jeske was the first one on the team to finish the 5K girls’ varsity race. She placed 10th out of 102 runners with a time of 21:34.30. Leah Harper of Phillips won the race with a time of 20:02.80.
Junior Halle Tonn and freshman Brooklyn Talmage were the teams’ second and third runners coming in just seconds apart. Tonn placed 20th and Talmage placed 22nd with times of 22:54.60 and 22:57.50, respectively.
Sydney Larson, a sophomore, was the fourth runner for the team. She placed 30th with a time of 23:47.10. Freshman Ellie Engeman also scored points. She placed 41st with a time of 24:43.60.
The varsity boys’ team scored 201 points at the Cadott invitational beating Fall Creek who scored 263 and Augusta who scored 283. Rib Lake-Prentice won the ten team invitational with a score of 47.
Senior Michael Montgomery was the first varsity boys’ Bulldog to cross the finish line. He placed 37th out of 136 runners with a time of 19:35.80. Gavin Esterholm of Phillips won the race with a time of 16:48.20.
Junior Isaac Williams was the teams’ second runner. He placed 49th with a time of 20:12.90. Coming in third for the team was sophomore Nicholas Keely who ran the race in 20:47.50 which was good for 58th place.
Junior Forest Bettendorf and freshman Riley Naughton were the fourth and fifth runners for the team. Bettendorf placed 61st with a time of 20:50.40 and Naughton placed 70th with a time of 21:18.
In the middle school two mile race, the boys took second place out of 11 teams and the girls placed fifth out of 13 teams. Clayton Score was the first teammate to cross the finish line with a time of 11.44. He placed fifth.
Other middle school boys who scored points for the team included: Clyde Score, Zac Tonn, Easton Retz and Harry McGee.
In the middle school girls’ competition, Brielle Jeske led the team. She placed sixth with a time of 12:45.30. Other middle school girls who scored points for the team were: Katie Maska, Raven Naughton, Boston Sutliff and Gracie Harvey.

Durand Invitational
In Durand September 26, the varsity girls’ team had a rinse and repeat performance once again placing third. Nine teams ran the race and Independence-Gilmanton won with a score of 75. The Bulldog girls scored 89 points beating out Somerset, Prairie Farm, Durand, Elk Mound, Fall Creek and Spring Valley.
Once again, Blake Jeske led the girls’ varsity team. She placed 10th out of 85 runners with a time of 22:40.14. Taylor Sylla of Independence-Gilmanton won the race with a time of 19:50.51.
Brooklyn Talmage and Halle Tonn were again the teams’ second and third runners. Talmage placed 16th with a time of 23:21.68 and Tonn placed 19th with a time of 23:32.24. Ellie Engeman came in 20th with a time of 23:46.10 and Sydney Larson rounded out the scoring members of the team placing 24th with a time of 24:16.
In the varsity boys’ competition, Lake City won with a score of 47. The Bulldog boys took fourth with a score of 131 besting Elk Mound, Ellsworth, Prairie Farm, Spring Valley, Somerset, Fall Creek and Whitehall.
Michael Montgomery was once again the top Bulldog boys’ varsity finisher. He placed 15th out of 98 runners with a time of 19:45.25. Zayne Richardson of Durand won the race with a time of 17:23.52.
Isaac Williams was again the teams’ second runner. He came in 19th with a time of 20:05.13. Riley Naughton, Forest Bettendorf and Nicholas Keely, who are the usual suspects for the teams’ third, fourth and fifth runners, did not disappoint. The trio finished the race within seconds of each other.
Naughton placed 36th with a time of 20:56.44, Bettendorf placed 38th with a time of 20:59.76 and Keely placed 39th with a time of 21:01.81.
The middle school boys’ team placed third out of eight teams with a score of 83. Elk Mound won with a score of 30. Clyde Score was the top boys finisher. He placed 11th with a time of 12:20.93.
Other teammates that scored points for the middle school boys’ team were: Zac Tonn, Easton Retz, Easton Lange and Harry McGee.
The middle school girls’ team placed fourth out of 10 teams with a score of 105. Somerset won with a score of 40. Brielle Jeske placed second in the race with a time of 12:50.45 out of 114 runners.
Other teammates that scored points for the middle school girls’ team were: Raven Naughton, Katie Maska, Boston Sutliff and Hannah Bensend.
