In a cross country meet in which 38 teams and over 1,000 runners competed, the Colfax boys and girls raced at the Rice Lake Invitational held on the UW-Eau Claire Barron campus Sept. 17. Runners from all three divisions in Wisconsin competed and the meet was divided into a Small School and Large School Division.
As of yet, Colfax does not have enough athletes for a full boy’s or girls team. Four girls did compete with Kaysen Goodell placing fourth in the Small School Division with a time of 21:17 (14th overall), Hannah Peterson was 18th at 23:21, (50th overall), Lauren Becker was 31st in 25:00 (85th overall) and Veronika Leavens was 52nd in 27:01 (125th) There were 173 girls in the race which was won by Bloomer’s Ciara Hartman in 17:47.
Just two boys recorded times for the Vikings as Charlie Charbonneau was 29th in the Small School Division and 62nd overall at 19:19. Isaiah Entzminger was 35th and 81st overall, coming in at 19:55 with 206 boys competing. Seth Rogge of Bloomer took the race in 16:06.
“We were hoping to be a little faster in the warm and windy weather,” head coach Joe Doucette stated. “We were solid, but not great and have been working out hard and looked a little tired. Kaysen medaled in her third race in a row which was a highlight for us. The boys have potential as a group and we are close to having a full team score. The coaching staff really likes this group because everyone works hard and they really get along. We are excited to see if we can keep improving,” he concluded.
Middle School
The Colfax middle school girls placed fourth in the competition with a score of 168. Coming over the finish line first for the team was Presley Kittilson who placed 18th with a time of 13:15.40. Carley Meinen was the team’s second runner coming in 20th with a time of 13:23.20.
Other members of the team who scored points were: Jillian Rose who placed 27th, Harlow Apel who placed 50th and Olivia Kragness who placed 61st.
The Colfax middle school boys did not have enough runners to make a team. Those who ran the race were: Jack Leavens who placed 13th with a time of 11:37.60 and Ben Charbonneau who placed 16th with a time of 11:38.60.
