Check out Wisconsin’s State Parks at your library
COLFAX, – The Colfax Public Library, in partnership with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, is participating in a program to make state park and forest vehicle admission day passes available to library card holders at Colfax Public Library.
The “Check Out Wisconsin State Parks At Your Library” program began in 2022 and has grown to include more than 150 libraries statewide. Passes are available to library patrons to check out for a day visit to any state park, forest or recreation area that requires vehicle admission. Thanks to a grant from Woods Run Forest Products (the Ilo Ayres memorial grant), Colfax Public Library card holders can now check-out this day pass to Wisconsin state parks for free. The program runs through the end of the year but there is a limited supply of passes available.
“We are always excited to be able to provide new programming and promote opportunities for learning and exploring in the state of Wisconsin. Anyone needing a library card or with questions about this program should stop in at the library,” said Jess Dunn, Circulation Librarian.
The Wisconsin State Park System is comprised of 50 state parks, 9 recreation areas, 15 state forests, and 44 state trails. The Park System offers a wide variety of activities for all abilities and interests. Established hiking trails, campsites, and fishing holes complement activities like snowshoeing, crosscountry skiing, and mountain biking. There are self-guided nature trails, picnic shelters and playgrounds. Many locations offer concession and restroom amenities, while some spots remain undeveloped and open to exploration by boat or foot.
The program, Check Out Wisconsin’s State Parks At Your Library, is a collaborative effort between the DNR, Wisconsin Library Association’s Wisconsin Association of Public Libraries, Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, and the C.D. Besadny Conservation Fund from the Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin.
