BOYCEVILLE — Boyceville hosted the Dunn-St. Croix Conference track and field meet lat Tuesday, May 14 under near ideal weather condition as all eight schools – Elk Mound, Durand, Glenwood City, Mondovi, Spring Valley, Colfax, Elmwood/Plum City and the Bulldogs were in attendance.
The meet ended with a pair of repeat champions. Mondovi won the girls’ competition again with 144.3 points while the Elk Mound boys equalled their score from last year, 184 points, to claim their second straight title.
The Bulldog boys team earned 92 points which was good for fourth place.
Senior Caden Wold, last year’s Division 3 state runner-up in the long jump, won first place and first team, all-conference honors in both the long jump and triple jump events with leaps of 21 feet 6.5 inches and 41 feet 8.5 inches, respectively. In long jump, Wold jumped six and a half inches farther than second place and in the triple jump he was about a foot farther than his nearest competitor.
Senior Peter Wheeldon took seconds in the 400 meter dash and in the 110 meter hurdles with times of 51.18 seconds and 16.45 seconds, respectively. He took second in both events by just a fraction of a second.
Freshman Liam Moore-Girard also earned a second place in discus with a throw of 121 feet 9 inches. His throw beat out third-place finisher Graycen Banaszak of Elk Mound by about four feet. Liam was beaten by Durand’s Gavin Jahnke who threw 23 feet farther than him. Those runner-up finishes earned Wheeldon and Moore-Girard second team all-conference recognition.
Third-place finishers included Caden Wold in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.66 seconds and senior JJ Kurschner in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.59 seconds. Third place

was awarded honorable mention all-conference honors.
Coming in fourth at conference mneet were: JJ Kurschner in the 100 meter dash and the 4×400 relay team which consisted of Aiden Madison, Devon Lee, Jon Madison and Jon Frett.
In the fifth-place slots were: JJ Kurschner in the 400 meter run, sophomore Forest Bettendorf in the 3,200 m run and Liam Moore-Girard in pole vault. Jon Madison, Parker Coombs, Jon Frett and Devon Lee also got fifth place as members of the 4×200 m relay team.
The Bulldog girls tied with the Glenwood City girls for seventh place with each scoring 51.5 points.
Two of their relay teams came in first. In the 4×200 relay Jaden Stevens, Kylee Schlough, Sydney Larson and Halle Tonn beat out several close competitors in the event. In the 4×400 relay Halle Tonn, Jaden Stevens, Elliana Kietzer and Ashlyn Maska completely obliterated the other teams coming in a full 10 seconds before the second-place finishers.
Sophomores Halle Tonn and Brylee Stevens finished third and fourth, respectively, in the pole vault. Halle vaulted 8 feet 9 inches and Brylee cleared 8 feet.
In fifth place were sophomore Ashlyn Maska in the 1,600 m run, freshman Sydney Larson in the 300 meter hurdles and the 4×100 relay team which consisted of Lexi Cole, Avery Iverson, Kylee Schlough and Brylee Stevens
The Boyceville teams competed Monday in the WIAA Division 3 regional meet that was held in Colfax. The top four finishers in each event advanced to the sectional meet which will be held Thursday at Cameron High School beginning a 3 p.m. Competitors will be vying for berths to the state championships in La Crosse on May 31 and June 1.
