COLFAX — The spaghetti dinner at the Colfax Rescue Squad on Sunday, May 5, raised $1,849.
The Colfax Village Board approved at the May 13 meeting using the money raised to purchase a medic bag for the Colfax Rescue Squad and two binder lifts.
According to a report from Chrystal Smith, director of the Colfax Rescue Squad, the spaghetti dinner served approximately 140 people.
“They pretty much ran out of everything,” said Lynn Niggemann, village administrator-clerk-treasurer.
According to the report, the spaghetti dinner used a box and a half of bread sticks donated by Anne Jenson, village trustee and owner of A Little Slice of Italy.
Another 17 pounds of hamburger had been donated by Alfalawn Farm. Diners consumed 16 pounds of spaghetti as well. All of the sauce donated by Carey Davis, village trustee, also was consumed.
Rescue Squad staff donated many of the other items needed for the spaghetti dinner, according to the report.
“The food was great, the company was great, and thanks to everyone’s hard work and donations, we were able to raise enough money to get our new first-in bag for Medic 8 as well as a Binder Lift for both Medic 7 and Medic 8,” Smith wrote.
A Binder Lift is used to help get someone up off the floor, and can be especially useful in situations where someone is in an awkward position, such as falling in the bathroom and ending up wedged between the toilet and the wall.
The Colfax Village Board unanimously approved using the money raised during the spaghetti dinner to purchase a medic bag and the two binder lifts.
The Colfax Rescue Squad is owned by the Village of Colfax and in addition to the village, serves the Village of Elk Mound and the Village of Wheeler along with the Towns of Colfax, Elk Mound, Grant, Otter Creek, Sand Creek and Tainter.
