BOYCEVILLE — After rain ultimately canceled last Tuesday’s home meet for the Vikings’ track and field teams, Colfax athletes were able to get in their runs, jumps and throws at the Boyceville Invitational two days later.
Senior Jeanette Hydukovich continued her dominance in both the shot put and discus events. In Boyceville, which hosted this year’s Dunn-St. Croix Conference meet yesterday, Hydukovich won the shot put by three feet over Glenwood City sophomore Kyra Flick with a put of 38 feet and 2 inches. She also copped the gold medal in the discus throw with a toss of 121 feet 10 inches which was nearly 20 further than her younger sister, sophomore Clara Hydukovich, who placed second with a throw of 102 feet even.
Junior Kaysen Goodell also won the girls’ 800 meter run for Colfax and finished second in the 1,600 meters. Goodell had a winning time of 2:37.23 in the 800m which was over eight seconds faster than runner-up Olivia Pullen from Elmwood-Plum City. Her 1,600 meter time was 5:36.13, a personal record.
As a team, the Lady Vikings finished last out of eight schools with a tally of 46. Durand-Arkansaw won the meet with a score of 127 with Prairie Farm taking second with a 97.5 followed by Turtle Lake/Clayton at 95.
Theo Hovde had a banner day at the May 9 Boyceville Invite. The junior speedster took first in the 800 meters, was second in the 400 meters and long jump and ran a leg on the boys’ 4×400 meter relay team that placed third. Hovde had winning time of 2:11.02 in the 800, ran a :52.70 (a personal record) in the 400 and set another best in the long jump where he leaped 19 feet 9.5 inches.
Only the jump of his teammate and classmate, Logan Swartz, was better in the long jump. Swartz flew a personal best 20 feet even to capture the top spot in that event.
Swartz and Hovde along with sophomore Charlie Charbonneau and senior Eli Ralph made up Colfax’s 4×400 meter relay team that grabbed a bronze finish with a run of 3:52.05.
Charbonneau also did well individually placing third in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:16.53 and was fourth in the 400 meters after a run of :56.43.
