The Colfax-Elk Mound golf squad played in back-to-back meets last week including a home invitational and a Dunn-St. Croix competition.
Wednesday, April 24 at its own Whitetail Invitational, the local squad then played in a nine-hole conference meet the following day.
Eighteen schools attended and participated in the 2024 Whitetail Invitational with the host squad from Colfax-Elk Mound finishing seventh. The next day, April 25, the locals made a return trip to The Valley Golf Course in Mondovi for the fifth Dunn-St. Croix meet of the season where they finished second. The team was suppose to play another conference meet at Durand’s Rolling Greens Golf Course on Friday but it was postponed due to weather.
There are a pair of D-SC meets slated for this week – Tuesday, April 30 at Spring Valley and at home this Thursday – but, with several days of rainy weather forecasted, schedules may need to be adjusted. Early next week, Colfax-Elk Mound is set to participate in a pair of invitationals at Cadott’s Whispering Pines on Monday, May 6 and the following day, May 7, at the Lake Wissota Golf Course. The 18-hole conference tournament is set for Monday, May 13 at Glen Hills near Glenwood City.
Whitetail Invitational
Colfax-Elk Mound shot a 359 to finish seventh out of 18 schools at its annual Whitetail Invitational held Wednesday, April 24.
Senior Zane Brice was the top finisher for Colfax-Elk Mound in the 18-hole tournament. He shot an 84 to finish in a tie for 16th place. Sophomore Lucas Svee was just three strokes back with an 87. Another sophomore, Orion Nichols, carded a 92 while senior Christian Ebert tallied a 96 and junior Beau Borgwardt shot a 97 to compete the locals’ varsity scores.
Prescott won the meet with a low tally of 322, D-SC leader Durand-Arkansaw was a close second with a score of 324 and Baldwin-Woodville tallied a 331 to take third. Osceola senior Ethan Hall earned medalist honors (lowest score) with a 71.
Mondovi
Four of Colfax-Elk Mound’s five varsity golfers finished in the top ten in the Dunn-St. Croix Conference meet held Thursday, April 25 at The Valley Golf Course in Mondovi.
Senior Zane Brice once again led the local linksters as he finished with a 43 to place fifth. Sophomore Lucas Svee shot a 47 to tie for eighth while junior Beau Borgwardt and senior Christian Ebert both carded 49s to finish in a tenth-place tie with Durand-Arkansaw’s Dane Schauls. Senior Chance Smith rounded out the local card with a finishing score of 52.
Those individual performances allowed Colfax-Elk Mound to take second with a final score of 188. Durand-Arkansaw was the victor with a tally of 170. Glenwood City took third with a 194 followed by Spring Valley at 211 and Mondovi had a 212.
Durand-Arkansaw also posted the top two individual finishes as junior Logan Weissinger earned medalist honors with a score of 38 and sophomore teammate Troy Pudenz placed second with a 41.
