The Colfax girls played four games on the road last week and managed to pick up three Dunn-St. Croix Conference wins to maintain their hold on first place. Starting at Boyceville April 22, they overcame a slow start but managed to pull out a 6-1 win over the Bulldogs. They traveled to take on Alma-Pepin the next day in a non-conference contest and were not very successful, dropping the contest 13-3. In a Friday night double header, the Lady Vikings faced the D-SC defending champions, the Mondovi Buffaloes, and came away with two-five inning wins by scores of 8-6 and 12-4 putting their conference record at 9-0. Boyceville and Elk Mound are tied for second place with two losses.
Boyceville
The Vikings began the week at 6-0 in conference play while the Bulldogs were 6-1 with their only loss coming from the Vikings a few weeks ago. The game had all the makings of an exciting contest but the pitching turned out to be the difference. Colfax hurler Laikyn Beyer whiffed 14 Bulldog batters and although the Vikings struck out 12 times themselves, they used 14 free passes and some timely hits to score enough runs for the win.
After a scoreless first two innings, Colfax broke through when, after loading the bases, Hannah Peterson blasted a single to bring two runs in. Audrey Ebert followed by banging a double to bring in another run and when the inning ended it was 4-0 for the Vikings. Beyer held the Bulldogs in check and the Vikings tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh to make it 6-0.
Boyceville managed to get a run in in the bottom of the seventh but Beyer shut them down to end the game.
The Vikings picked up just five hits with Ebert having the only one for extra bases. Beyer scored a run and collected an RBI while McKenna Shipman drew three walks, scoring once and picked up an RBI.
Alma-Pepin
Playing out of the Small Dairyland Conference, Alma-Pepin was 5-1 in conference play and 5-4 overall. Alexis Schindler took the call to the circle for Colfax and had a tough time getting outs in her three innings. Colfax grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the first inning but Alma-Pepin scored four times in the second and broke things open with a six run third.
Colfax managed to get single runs in the third and fifth but after Alma-Pepin scored once in the fourth, they ended the game early with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Jada Anderson batted 2-for-3 for the Vikings with an RBI, a run scored and a pair of stolen bases. Brynn Sikora was also 2-for-3 including a double and two RBIs and Shipman had one hit and crossed home plate once. Schindler absorbed the loss, allowing eight hits with four walks and one walk in three innings. Beyer finished things off, giving up six hits and three runs with one K.

Mondovi-Game 1
After their game was rained out a week earlier and rescheduling in the spring is never easy, the teams agreed to play two- five inning games in Mondovi last Friday.
Colfax went ahead 1-0 in the top of the second but allowed the Buffaloes to score twice in the third for the lead. The Vikings opened things up in the fourth with four runs to move ahead 5-2 but once again Mondovi added two runs in their half of the inning to cut their lead to 5-4. After adding three runs in the fifth, the Vikings had to stave off a Buffalo rally when they came up with a pair of runs before pitcher Beyer shut them down to preserve the win.
Ebert picked up three RBIs on a 2-for-3 performance at the plate which included a double while Peterson was also 2-for-3 with a run scored. Mackenzi Loback had just one hit but knocked in a couple of runs, Anderson smacked a two bagger to bring in a run while coming home twice and Sikora slammed an over the fence homer and walked twice, scoring three runs. Beyer hurled all five innings, allowing five hits with four Ks and three free passes.
Mondovi-Game 2
The Vikings were the home team in the second game and fell behind rather quickly as the Buffaloes scored two runs in the top of the first. But in the bottom of the second, the bats were ringing for Colfax as they put up a six spot and added five more in the third for an 11-2 advantage.
Mondovi made an attempt to get back in the game with two runs in the fourth but after the Vikings added another tally in the fourth, Beyer and the Colfax defense shut them down in the fifth to finish off the game.
Ebert ended her day with another pretty impressive performance, picking up a trio of RBIs on two hits including a double. Emma Medin added to the hitting brigade with three hits with two RBIs and a run scored, Beyer also slammed three hits with a double to bring in a couple of runs while coming home once, Peterson smashed a triple and scored twice while Anderson collected two hits including a two-base hit with a trio of RBIs and two runs scored.
Beyer earned her second win of the day, giving up five hits while whiffing six Buffalo batters and walking just two.
