GLENWOOD CITY — After its home conference meet last Tuesday had to be postponed due to rain, the Colfax-Elk Mound boys’ golf team finished in a second-place tie with host Glenwood City in a nine-hole Dunn-St. Croix Conference meet held Thursday, April 18 at Glen Hills Golf Course.
Despite blustering winds and bone-chilling temperatures, Colfax-Elk Mound tallied a 176 to finish in a tie with the Hilltoppers for second place. Durand-Arkansaw again topped the team scores with a 163. Spring Valley was fourth with a 202 and Mondovi shot a 218 to finish in fifth place.
Four of the five Colfax-Elk Mound varsity golfers finished with sub-50 scores at Glen Hills led by Zane Brice who carded a squad-best 40 to finish in third place. Lucas Svee shot a 44 and Beau Borgwardt and Christian Ebert both signed off on scores of 46. Mason Mohr tallied a 56.
Durand-Arkansaw’s Troy Pudenz finished with a 38 to earn medalist (best score) honors. Teammate Logan Weissinger was second with a 39.
The Colfax-Elk Mound junior varsity team shot a 212 and also earned second place, one-stroke ahead of Glenwood City. Durand-Arkansaw won the junior varsity competition with a 209. Spring Valley was a distant fourth with a 245.
Chance Smith led the Colfax-Elk Mound junior squad with a 47. Trey Larson shot a 52, Matt Hanson had a 56, Mihretu Emch and Levi Elwood both shot 57s and Carson VanNess finished with a 58.
The postponed conference home meet will be made up on May 7.
Meanwhile, the Colfax-Elk Mound golfers played in Mondovi for the second time this season yesterday (Tuesday, April 23). Colfax-Elk Mound will host an invitational at Whitetail today (Wednesday, April 24) before its makes a return trip to Rolling Greens Golf Course in Durand on Friday. Then next Tuesday, the locals close out the month of April with another conference meet in Spring Valley.
