ELK MOUND — At the Elk Mound track and field invite held last Thursday the Boyceville High School (BHS) boys’ team placed fifth and the girls placed seventh out of seven teams. Athletes and spectators alike battled strong gusty winds that occasionally blew the bars off the high jump and pole vault.
BHS fought hard against both the wind and several larger school districts including Prescott, Bloomer and Durand. The boys 4×200 relay team beat all three of these bigger schools by a fairly large margin coming in with a time of 1.35.74 which not only earned them first place but also broke the BHS school record.
The previous BHS 4×200 record was set in 2013 by Tyler Wolfe, Dominic Olson, Logan McAbee Thomas and Devonta Anderson with a time of 1.37.18. Peter Wheeldon, Caden Wold, Jon Madison and JJ Kurschner are the new record holders for the event.
Caden Wold, who was recently named by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel as one of 44 high school boy track athletes to watch this year, earned the team a pair of firsts in two field events. In the long jump he out jumped his nearest competitor by more than two feet with a leap of 21 feet six inches. In the triple jump he traversed 41 feet four inches, about five feet more than the second place finisher.
Senior Peter Wheeldon placed second in the 110M hurdles with a time of 16.95. Freshman Liam Moore also earned a second place for the team in discus with a throw of 116 feet 2 inches as well as a third place in pole vault with a jump of 8 feet.
Other third place finishers on the boys team included Caden Wold in the 100M dash with a time of 11.61 and freshman Isaiah Romero in high jump with a jump of 5 feet 4 inches.
The boys also scored points in the 4×100 relay with a time of 51.61 seconds. The team which consisted of Jon Madison, Parker Coombs, Isaiah Romero and Liam Moore placed fourth in the event. A fifth place was scored by the 4×400 relay team with a time of 3.55.41. Peter Wheeldon, Devon Lee, Isaiah Romero and Jon Madison made up the team.

Senior JJ Kurschner scored points for the team with a sixth place finish in long jump, a seventh place in the 200M dash and an eighth place in 100M dash.
Prescott won the boys competition with 194 points and the BHS boys score was 79. The girls team faced some harsh competition at the meet placing last with 38 points. Bloomer won the girls meet with 146 points.
Sophomore Brylee Stevens took home the only second place for the team in the pole vault with a jump of 7 feet 6 inches. She also took seventh place in triple jump with a leap of 27 feet 5.29 inches.
The 4×800 relay team earned a fourth place finish with team members Jaden Stevens, Ashlyn Maska, Elliana Kietzer and Ellie Engeman. Their time was 11.26.50.
Two of the girls relay teams placed fifth at the meet. The 4×100 relay with a time of 1.00.08 and the 4×400 relay with a time of 4:47.86. Team members were Brylee Stevens, Lexi Cole, Avery Iverson and Kylee Schlough and Jaden Stevens, Ashlyn Maska, Lucy Wheeldon and Halle Tonn respectively.
Another fifth place was earned by freshman Sydney Larson in the 300M hurdles with a time of 59.73. Avery Iverson also placed in the 300M hurdles with a time of 1.02.98 which was good for eighth.
Sophomore Halle Tonn placed sixth in the 100M dash with a time of 13.93. She placed seventh in the 200M dash with a time of 29.26. Jaden Stevens took eighth in the event with a time of 29.78.
Another eighth place finisher was freshman Lucy Wheeldon in the 400M with a time of 1:10.17 and Avery Iverson in the 110M hurdles with a time of 21.76.
