SHANE WINS STATE POWERLFITNG TITLE — Colfax senior Kennedy Shane, pictured third from the left holding the big state trophy, captured a state championship by winning the 242-pound (110 K) Raw weight class at the 2024 Wisconsin High School Powelifting Association’s State Meet held March 1-3 in Appleton, WI.
APPLETON, WI — Kennedy Shane can now call herself a powerlifting state champion.
The Colfax senior captured the 110-kilogram or 242-pound Raw state title at the Wisconsin High School Powerlifting Association’s State competition held March 1-3 at the Fox Cities Exhibition Center in Appleton. Shane placed fifth in last year’s competition.
During the USA Powerlifting sanctioned state meet, Shane squatted 350 pounds, benched 140 pounds and was able to deadlift 265 pounds.
Colfax head coach Matt DeMoe noted that Kennedy Shane went eight for nine in her attempts missing only on her final bench attempt.
Powerlifters can compete in one of two categories – Raw and Equipped. Those competing in Raw may use an approved weight belt, an approved singlet, approved wrist wraps, and chalk. Competing Equipped allows an individual to use knee wraps, a squat and deadlift bodysuit, and a bench shirt in addition to the items allowed by Raw competitors.
Four other Colfax teammates joined Shane at the state tournament. Also competing in Appleton were Ava Sedivy, Audrey Ebert, Chris Evenson, and Asher Pecha. Sedivy, Ebert, and Pecha were also state competitors a year ago.
Ava Sedivy, competing in the girls’ 60K or 132-pound Raw division, squatted 204 pounds, benched 94 pounds and deadlifted 281 pounds to finished in 15th place.
