Elk Mound school district “exceeds expectations” on state report card

ELK MOUND — The Elk Mound school district has received a grade of “exceeds expectations” on the state report card issued by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
On the individual breakdown, Mound View Elementary “significantly exceeds expectations,” while Elk Mound Middle School “exceeds expectations” and Elk Mound High School “meets expectations,” said Eric Wright, district administrator, regarding information provided to the Elk Mound Board of Education November 27.
The state report cards are based on one state test and are “only one piece of the pie,” he said.
In addition to information from the state report card, school district staff also consider a variety of local data when assessing the progress of the students in the district, Wright said.
Elk Mound’s achievement scores “are a credit to the staff and to the community for valuing our schools and valuing education,” he said.
On the state report card, the Elk Mound school district received an overall score of 72.8 (exceeds expectations).
The school district received a score of 63.2 on English Language Arts, compared to a statewide average of 60.1.
The school district received a score of 71.4 on mathematics, compared to a statewide average of 57.2.
EMSD English
In English Language Arts, the Elk Mound school district had fewer students in 2022-2023 who scored below basic than there were the previous year, about the same number who scored at the basic level, more students who scored at the proficient level and more students who scored at the advanced level.
In 2022-2023, there were 17.6 percent of students who scored at below basic for achievement, compared to 20.4 percent in 2021-2022.
About the same number of students scored at the basic level in English Language Arts — 40 percent in 2022-2023 and 41.2 percent in 2021-2022.
In 2022-2023, there were more students who scored at the proficient level in English Language Arts — 34.7 percent, compared to 31.6 percent in 2021-2022.
And there were more students who scored at the advanced level in English Language Arts in 2022-2023 — 7.7 percent, compared to 6.8 percent in 2021-2022.
District math
In mathematics, the Elk Mound school district had fewer students who scored below basic in achievement, about the same number who scored at the basic level, had more students who scored at the proficient level and about the same number who scored at the advanced level.
In 2022-2023, 18.5 percent scored at below basic on mathematics in the school district, compared to 21.5 percent the previous year.
There were 30.5 percent who scored at the basic level for mathematics in 2022-2023, compared to 31.2 percent in 2021-2022.
At the proficient level in mathematics, there were 37.3 percent of the students tested in 2022-2023, compared to 33.4 percent in 2021-2022.
At the advanced level in mathematics in 2022-2023 there were 13.7 percent of the students tested, compared to 14 percent in 2021-2022.
Mound View
Mound View Elementary achieved an overall score of 87 (significantly exceeds expectations).
In English Language Arts, Mound View students had a score of 64.8 on achievement for 2022-2023, compared to a statewide average of 59.1.
In mathematics, Mound View Elementary achieved a score of 76.9, compared to a statewide average of 66.2.
MV English
For English Language Arts, Mound View Elementary had fewer students who scored at the below basic level for achievement in 2022-2023 compared to 2021-2022, about the same number who scored at the basic level, had more students who scored at the proficient level but had fewer students who scored at the advanced level.
For 2022-2023, 17.3 percent of Mound View Elementary students scored at a below basic level in English Language arts, compared to 20.2 percent in 2021-2022.
In 2022-2023, 36.3 percent of Mound View Elementary students scored at the basic level, compared to 36 percent for 2021-2022.
For 2022-2023 at the proficient level in English Language Arts, there were 40.8 percent of the students, compared to 33.7 percent for the previous year.
For 2022-2023, 5.6 percent of Mound View Elementary students scored at the advanced level for English Language Arts, while 10.1 percent scored at the advanced level in 2021-2022.
MV math
At Mound View Elementary for mathematics, there were about the same number who scored at the below basic level in achievement compared to the previous year, more students who scored at the basic level, more students who scored at the proficient level and fewer students who scored at the advanced level.
In 2022-2023 for mathematics, 16.2 percent of students at Mound View scored at the below basic level, compared to 16.3 percent the previous year
Mound View Elementary had 30.7 percent of students score at the basic level in 2022-2023, compared to 28.7 percent in 2021-2022.
There were 38 percent of Mound View Students who scored at the proficient level in mathematics for 2022-2023, compared to 34.8 percent the previous year.
In 2022-2023, there were 15.1 percent of students at Mound View who scored at the advanced level, compared to 20.2 percent in 2021-2022.
EM Middle School
Elk Mound Middle school received an overall score of 71 (exceeds expectations).
For English Language Arts, Elk Mound Middle School had a score of 61.5 in achievement, compared to 59.7 for the statewide average.
For mathematics, Elk Mound Middle School had a score of 73.7 in achievement, compared to a statewide average of 52.8.
EMMS English
For English Language Arts in 2022-2023, Elk Mound Middle School had fewer students who scored at the below basic level compared to the previous year, had more students who scored at the basic level, had fewer students who scored at the proficient level and had more students who scored at the advanced level.
In 2022-2023, there were 18.6 percent of Elk Mound Middle School students who scored below basic, compared to 21.7 percent in 2021-2022.
In 2022-2023, there were 43.7 percent of students who scored at the basic level in English Language Arts, compared to 40.8 percent in 2021-2022.
In 2022-2023 there were 29.7 percent of students who scored at the proficient level, compared to 33.7 percent the previous year.
In 2022-2023, there were 8 percent of the students who scored at the advanced level, compared to zero percent in 2021-2022.
EMMS math
Elk Mound Middle School had fewer students who scored at below basics in mathematics in 2022-2023 compared to the previous year, had fewer students who scored at the basic level, had more students who scored on the proficient level, and and had more students who scored at the advanced level.
In 2022-2023, there were 15.7 percent of Elk Mound Middle School students who scored at the below basic level in mathematics, compared to 18.8 percent in 2021-2022.
In 2022-2023, there were 29.7 percent of students who scored at the basic level, compared to 32.5 percent the previous year.
In 2022-2023, there were 40.9 percent of students who scored at the proficient level, compared to 37 percent the previous year.
In 2022-2023, there were 13.7 percent of students who scored at the advanced level in mathematics, compared to 9.1 the previous year.
EM High School
Elk Mound High School had an overall score of 69.7 (meets expectations).
For English Language Arts, Elk Mound High School scored at 64.3, compared to 61.3 statewide.
For mathematics, the high school scored 64.4, compared to 53 statewide.
EMHS English
For English Language Arts at Elk Mound High School, there were fewer students at the below basic level in 2022-2023, there were fewer students at the basic level, there were more students at the proficient level, and there were about the same number of students at the advanced level.
In 2022-2023, 16.3 percent of Elk Mound High School students scored at the below basic level for English Language Arts, compared to 18.7 percent the previous year.
In 2022-2023, there were 37.5 percent of students who scored at the basic level, compared to 45.5 percent in 2021-2022.
In 2022-2023, there were 37.5 percent of students who scored at the proficient level on English Language Arts, compared to 22.2 percent the previous year.
In 2022-2023, there were 8.8 percent of students who scored at the advanced level in English Language Arts, compared to 8.5 percent in 2021-2022.
EMHS math
For mathematics at Elk Mound High School, there were fewer students who scored at the below basic level in 2022-2023 than the previous year, there were more students who scored at the basic level, more student who scored at the proficient level and fewer students who scored at the advanced level in 2022-2023 compared to the previous year.
In 2022-2023, there were 23.9 percent of Elk Mound High School students who scored at the below basic level, compared to 29 percent the year before.
In 2022-2023, there 31.5 percent of students who scored at the basic level, compared to 27.3 percent the previous year.
In 2022-2023, there were 31.9 percent of students who scored at the proficient level, compared to 27.3 percent in 2021-2022.
In 2022-2023, there were 12.7 percent of students who scored at the advanced level, compared to 16.3 percent the previous year.
