“Kaysen was ill earlier in the week and we were a little worried,” Colfax head coach Joe Doucette said. “But she came through and had her best race of the year. She ran smart and was very patient, even on a tough course. We are super excited for her. Hannah also had her best race of the year in the strong field. She is very talented and had an impressive first full year. Lauren continues to impress us as a teammate and person,” he added.
For the Viking boys, sophomore Charlie Charbonneau and junior Logan Swartz competed in a field of 103 individuals with Charbonneau claiming 29th place in 19:04 and Swartz finishing in 71st place in 20:37. Gavin Stewart of Ladysmith smoked the field with a time of 16:13 to earn first place. There were 16 full teams and the top two teams who qualified for the state meet were Chippewa Falls McDonell and Chetek-Weyerhaeuser.
“We think Charlie can be very good in the next couple of years,” Doucette said. “Logan impressed us all year with his work ethic and drive and took a big, positive step. The coaches think he will have a great senior year,” he stated.
Goodell will compete in the WIAA Division 3 girls’ state championship this Saturday, October 28 at Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids at 1:45 p.m.
“We think she will run well,” Doucette said. “She has run twice there already and ran very well. We talked all year that she is tough mentally and physically. It was different this year with it being the first time we did not have a team, but the kids we had were great and represented the school in a classy way,” he concluded.
