SOMERSET — In its only match last week, the Colfax volleyball team fell three sets to one during a non-conference visit to Somerset Tuesday, September 5.
The Vikings (6-5) found themselves down two sets to none after losing a pair of tightly played sets, 20-25 and 19-25.
Colfax flipped the script in the third set as they rallied to take a 25-19 win but in the fourth set, Somerset prevailed in another close battle, 25-21, to take the match win.
“It was an exciting match tonight in Somerset. 25 blocks by Colfax at the net,” stated Vikings’ head coach Kari Sedivy of the matchup
Senior Jeanette Hydukovich came up with ten of those 25 solo blocks against the Spartans, who look to challenge for a conference title in this year’s Middle Border race. Lydia Polkoski added seven blocks while Jada Anderson tallied three and Aubrey Rihn and McKenna Shipman each finished with a pair.
Defensively, the Vikings registered 50 digs in the four-set match. Shipman came up with a dozen, Brynn Sikora and Hydukovich each added nine, Jada Anderson six, Emma Medin finished with five and Ava Sedivy collected four.
Anderson finished with four of Colfax’s ten service aces against Somerset. Sikora, Hydukovich and Medin tallied two apiece.
Shipman collected eight of her team’s 17 assists. Meadow Keltner added five and Polkoski finished with three.
Hydukovich recorded eight kills to lead her squad.
Colfax will open conference play this Thursday when it travels to Boyceville. The Vikings will take part in the Hudson Invitational on Saturday and will return to Dunn-St. Croix action next Tuesday, September 19 when they welcome a talented Spring Valley team in the conference home opener.
