Brice finishes season, places 28th at Sectional Golf meet

CHIPPEWA FALLS — Zane Brice, the Colfax-Elk Mound boys golf team’s final competitor, finished his season placing in a four-way tie for 28th at the WIAA Division 2 Sectional Golf meet hosted by McDonell Central at the Lake Wissota Golf Course in Chippewa Falls Tuesday, May 30.
The junior shot a 12-over-par 84 on the Lake Wissota course. Playing 18 holes, Brice carded a 43 on the first nine holes and then shaved off two strokes on the final nine holes to finish with a 41.
Brice was the only member of this year’s Colfax-Elk Mound boys’ squad to qualify for the sectional tournament.
Amery, led by junior Aaron Mork who shot a one-under-par 71 to claim medalist honors, won the 12-team sectional meet with a score of 302 while host Chippewa Falls McDonell Central finished in second place with a 306. Both teams earned berths in this week’s state tournament which was held Monday and Tuesday, June 5 and 6 at Black Wolf – Meadows Course in Kohler.
The top three individual finishers from non-qualifying state teams also advanced to the state competition. That trio included senior Nicholas Mueller of St. Croix Central who shot a even-par 72 and juniors August Lang of Somerset and Connor Lingen of Medford, both of whom carded 74s.
